I can't name a single policy in the past several years, when I really started to pay attention politics, where both sides actually held a synonymous or at least mildly similar stance on a policy.

    Can anyone here name one?

Of course not - if the two sides agree, it's not a policy issue because it's probably solved. For example, both sides agree on seat belt requirements. Thus we have seat belt requirements and it's not a policy topic. The only things that are going to be issues are the ones that the two parties disagree on by definition. If both sides had the same view on immigration, for example, that immigration policy would be in place and no one would be talking about it.

There are some libertarian and green party things that elected Democrats and Republicans would likely unite against them on.

Off the top of my head:

    - Disregard for sovereignty of non-Americans outside America.
    - To call an obviously non-liberal group of people "liberal".
    - Dictatorship/democracy or respect for human rights is irrelevant for selecting allies.
    - Sometimes, it's ok to assassinate the teenage son of a dangerous American who has had no charges brought against him.
    - To keep money in American politics.
    - Acceptance of undeclared wars.
    - Legally and illegally gathering private data of Americans and non-Americans.
    - Disrupting the otherwise legitimate function of news media to further political agenda.

It may seem they disagree on a lot, but the truth is that they choose to publicly discuss the trivial things they disagree about more so than the hugely significant things they agree on. It's similar to the US relationship with Saudi: a person with little knowledge of the relationship would assume that these countries are enemies based on pop-news culture.

They are more similar than dissimilar, especially now with the decline of labor's influence inside DLC leadership.

Who each appeals to might be different due to personality, cultural or physiological differences, but the actual governance and execution typically normed the same. Dub****'s legacy is in flames because he deviated from the norm.

Bailing out Wall Street with tarp is a typical non-foreign policy example. Everyone inside cabinet was theoretically aligned to no bailouts and no moral hazard. Whether they're opposing/regretting it for posterity's sake doesn't really matter anymore.

They did it but it was the people who later morphed/transferred that decision into a more politically appropriate owner, his liberal successor.

FP is more rife with examples...

Not banning half of the population from driving, running for office or just, you know, showing their hair or face.
Not requiring a foursome of witnesses to prosecute a rape (or avoid getting charged with adultery).
Not hanging teenage girls for getting pregnant.
