My friends and I got our tickets for the Midnight showing this Thursday. Anybody else going to see this early? I'm excited as hell, only 4 days and I can't wait. I hope it's bigger than Spiderman, I have a feeling it will be much better.
I cant wait, one of the most anticipating movies for me. What theater are you watching it at midnight? I was thinking about going to a midnight showing but the Cinemark theater by my house isnt showing a midnight showing. The only thing I am wondering if they are going to mention anything about the relationship between Nightcrawler and Mystique and the fact that Nightcrawler is older than Mystique (well, according to their respective actor/actress age).
Well, I'm at A&M, so I'm going to the only theater in College Station. I don't think they'll touch on Mystique and Kurt's past. Maybe in the third. I really wanted to see Gambit, he'd be pretty easy to put in compared to Beast and Angel. Actually, I read that a stuntman filmed a scene as him, but it got cut from the movie. I'm just stoked about the attack on the mansion where Wolverine goes berserk on those troops.
and prepare to be dissapointed. man it was a one adamantium clawed man show. the other x men took a backseat to wolverine.
I thought the first one was fine and almost good. Certainly not great, but certainly not bad. Too much Wolvie and Rogue for my tastes. And practically no Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm. The three of them were like cardboard cutouts. I'd have liked it if they either started with the old X-Men or with the New X-Men, rather than re-imagining for cheap purposes -- skipping forward and putting Rogue (a mid to late eighties creation if I'm remembering right) right in the middle of the first story, while blowing off important characters as background and leaving out others entirely. I've always been a big DC guy and only a dabbler in Marvel stuff. But to me there are two classic X-Men teams. One is Cyclops, J. Grey (Marvel Girl), Iceman, Beast, Angel. The other is them plus Storm, Wolverine, Colossus, Nightcrawler and Kitty Pryde (with Rogue showing up at the tail end of the classic era and types like Gambit not figuring in at all). The idea of the whole first movie blowing off the common links from the two classic teams (Scott and Jean and their love affair), in what basically amounted to the Wolverine/Rogue/Mystique/Sabretooth/Toad show was disappointing. I think this one'll be better, but I'd hardly call the first one a must-see. As decent as it was, I was non-plussed. I give it a C.
Well, as just a movie, it stands up pretty well on it's own IMHO. I do think that other characters should have been chosen from the comic, but you have to understand that Singer never read an X-Men comic until he started researching for the movie. I don't know about DeSanto, but the same probably goes for him. Also, they didn't have the budget to put in guys like Beast and Angel. This is from Greg Schmitz at Yahoo Movies. 400k for just a quick scene on a basketball court, imagine if he was in the whole movie? The only complaint I had was making Iceman an X-kid instead of an X-Man. He's one of my favorite guys and seeing him turned into a cliched teenage nice guy, like some mutant Dawson really bugs me. I want my Iceman kidding around and being the "class clown." Speaking of which, will Tobey Mcguire ever sound comfortable cracking jokes like Spider-Man? I give the first one a solid B.
I am as stoked about this film as I am any other this summer, matrix included. I had absolutely no problems with the first one. I give it a solid a+. I think X-men purists are dorks. The transition from book or comic to film is always difficult and sacrifices can and will be made. It is a different medium and must cater to a different audience. The movie did this amazingly. Dittos for Spidey. I am yanking my boy from school early to go see a showing on Friday. (We did the same thing for Spider-man and we plan to make a habit of this for films that we are both excited about seeing.) My 2 pennies.
Hey I just copied your sig and did a google search for it and found it, and a bunch of other quotes from other seasons and episodes of that...what the hell is it? Those are funny as ****.
Out of 9 or 10 reviews on Dark Horizons today, all but one were marked as positive, with the remaining one being mixed. Garth of DH gave it 4/5, saying that the action was awesome and the story was nice and tight. How old is your boy? I've read several reviews that mention they were very surprised by how violent Wolverine gets in X2 (as Wolverine should).
What, you never saw the Family Guy on Fox? It's like the Simpsons, a family, a fat stupid dad, and a wife who keeps everything together. Of course, they also have a talking dog and baby who is hell bent on taking over the world but first wants to commit matricide. If you're ever up late, which I'm sure you are, you can watch it now on Cartoon Network. It comes on Sunday through Thursday at 10:30pm.
Harry Knowles of Aint it Cool News gives X2 the most positive review of any movie I have ever read, ever. Might be a little Spoilerish, no too bad though. http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=15084 I'm having a nerdgasm.
Oski - The more we drift from the war the more I want to grab a beer and bullsh!t with you. Great post from aicn. I read every word and man oh man does this sound good.
Compared to most superhero flicks X-Men was pretty good. I didn't read any of the comic books so I wouldn't know any particulars of the continuum but I grew up watching the cartoon on Fox which is pretty much why I felt compelled to see the movie. I don't know anything more about the storylines than what the cartoon portrayed. (Does Jean Grey turn into Phoenix in the continuum?) The adverts for the sequel look pretty sweet. I would definately go see the movie. Chance, there are some other good late night shows on Cartoon Network Sundays. I would check it out.
