This. It's not just that though, Hawes can back up Dwight, Young can't do that. Hawes+ a pick would be awesome, but maybe we can do a 3-way deal with Charlotte wherein we give them 1 pick for Hawes and keep the 2nd pick+exchange rights. People keep saying Asik tanked his value, I'm curious to see if that's what really happened since DM set the bar pretty high when bargaining.
If it's the sixers it won't be Thaddius Young because he's signed for 2 more years and I don't see Morey taking that on. Hawes seems like the perfect fit. Long, decent defender, can shoot the 3, good passer, and he actually rebounds. Hes on a 1 yr deal. But we need perimeter D. Wroten is certainly an appealing talent, but I'm assuming he and the rookies are off the table. Likewise I can't see Philly giving away draft picks with low protection.
I think we get Varejao and Waiters (maybe something else if we're lucky). We use Waiters to give Harden a break until the deadline when we trade him for a pick and sign a 3rd center to backup Varejao for when he gets injured.

Again, I would be shocked if we traded Asik for ONLY Varejao, but Varejao + Waiters? For Asik for wants to leave this team anyways? I'm sold (esp. since Varejao is only $4M guaranteed next yr and Waiters is still on rookie K).
Varejao? No thanks on a guy that only played in 1 out of every 3 games over the last 3 years. If he was an ideal on-court fit maybe. But he is even more limited than Howard on offence and can't (shouldn't) shoot 3s. I'm on with the folks that need a 1st round pick with him.
latest news is that the cavs are willing to be a the 3rd team to facilitate the trade with rockets, but they're not after asik.
