Tell me when was the last time you heard that a starting PG was only averaging 1 more assist per game than your center....

01/02 Shaq averaged more assists than fisher
02/03 fish averaged 0.5 more assists than Shaq
07/08 Gasol averaged more assist than fish. Fish averaged barely over 1 more assist than Bynum
08/09 Gasol averaged more assist than fish
10/11 no PG who played for the heat averaged more than 0.6 more assist than bosh

Probably some other examples I missed.

It's tough, and arguable impossible, to win a championship with your smallest guy (PG) being your best player. I don't think Houston is looking for CP3 type of player for the point position. They just need a solid defender to neutralize the opposing point guards and control the ball well. Beverley fits this mode better than Lin. We all know, when given the freedom, Lin can put up numbers that rival anyone in the NBA....that can't be said of Bev yet.

And this matters why? Oh right because the offense moves through HARDEN right? Lin is or WAS doing pretty well coming off the bench. He's better suited off the bench so we can use Beverly's defense to cover up Harden's.

You can't have Harden and Lin both trying to play defense the entire game and expect to win more than 50% of your games. Lin is never going to be able to keep up with the quicker Elite PG's. Lin's really not known for his defense anyways, he was brought in primarily to make plays and score. He's improved his shooting motion and that's definitely showing but he still has a ways to go defensively.

Beverly is great with our current lineup, he plays defense and shoots the 3 effectively enough to spread the floor.

If you still think running the game as a point guard being based on assists numbers than you do not understand the position or the sport at all.

What do you want Bev to do? I think the coaches are trying to spread the offence around and put the best defence on the opponent's starting guard and wear him down a little, that's Bev's bread and butter, while Lin can watch the floor and bring in some momentum and offensive fire. I'm sure Lin would rather start and he is absolutely good enough to on this team, but he needs to pace his game a little more constructively and save some strength for later in the season. I think it's a win-win situation for both Bev and Lin.

    Guys lets just trade Lin!

New York got rid of Lin for Raymond Felton and made a deep playoff run last year.

    Houston Should take a note.
Mark my words Pat Beverley is gonna be for the Rockets what Felton has been for the knicks. Book it!!!

Did anyone catch Jalen Rose's comment today that we only use positions like point guard to simplify it for the general public?

Jalen's been saying that for years, and he is dead on. People get so caught up in what a player at a particular position is and isn't supposed to do, when so few guys in the league actually fit neatly inside of the little box.
