His defense has been pretty poor more games then not. His 3 point shooting just hasn't been that great for a spot where he need's to hit at a higher clip.
Yup. Dude is nothing more than a scrub at the moment. After last postseason and this preseason, I was expecting so much more.
His defense is overrated..fouls way too much. Can't hit wide open shots so he's becoming a complete liability. Wish Morey would've signed Anthony Morrow whose shooting 44.7% from deep.
his defense has been atrocious...he fouls for no apparent reason sometimes...we need a Evan Turner on this team to be our "James harden" type sixth man
The best thing we can do to upgrade our team is to upgrade the quality of minutes that are currently played by Garcia. I like Garcia and Casspi but they are 9 and 10 in my ideal 10 man rotation. We so so so badly need a perimeter defensive player. I honestly wish we would have brought in Josh Smith last offseason. Luol Deng seems like a good option at this point. We want to win now.
He definitely looks slower and less accurate with his shooting as well. But Rockets fans' main comparison for performance is the second half of last season: an anomaly. He made some really clutch 3's for us that I wouldn't expect out of anyone but the stars and superstars around the NBA. That was clearly unsustainable. His defense last year was also anomalous. He gave Durant a lot of trouble mainly because of his length, and the fact that Durant didn't have Westbrook to deviate the focus for stretches of play (for a few games). Garcia this year is what he has been for the majority of his career: a good three point shooter with average defense. AFAIK he didn't get a lot of high paying offers over the summer even though he was a free agent. Rockets got a good deal on him this year, but can't rely on him to re-create last year's magic. He's certainly in a cold spell right now, but he'll bounce back to better 3pt shootin.
He'll get a nice block or 2 every once in a while, but jesus his defense and 3 point shooting have been lacking.
Its looking like we need to upgrade bench. Nights like tonight, Garcia was useless. AB needed to get some minutes instead of him. It isn't like Garcia is a defensive stopper so when he's not hitting his shot, why have him out there? They still need to find minutes for AB for scoring help.
Anticipating his return to Earth on the 3pt shooting is why I wanted to possibly keep Reggie Williams instead of Ronnie Brewer. Reggie would have been so much more useful to the Rockets as a more athletic version of Garcia. We may have been able to motivate him to play as well as he did during his stint in Golden State. He could have been another James Anderson player for us with better shooting. As a 3pt shooting team, we need a lot of good 3pt wings on the roster to keep rotating into the active 9-man group as and when they get hot.
Our lack of shooting off the bench along with missing Asik was very obvious tonight. Asik + Garcia and Casspi shooting well for us would be huge.
