Millsap can play alongside Jones or Parsons...so he should see plenty of playing time imo

Do it. One of them will come off the bench (as of today, I'd think that would be Millsap) and we'd be a significantly better team.

Plus, let's not forget that Jones can play C and Millsap can play SF for stretches like he did against the Rockets in Utah.

A big man rotation of Dwight-TJones-Millsap with occasional minutes, depending on matchups to DMo and Casspi, would be very nice.

It's speculation on their behalf. There is nothing to suggest that Atlanta is willing to trade with us.

ATL needs to throw in a backup C like Gustavo Ayon. We can give them Smith or Brewer as a throw in.

I don't think Millsap would take significant minutes away from TJones, espeically if they let Jones play backup center.

    Playoff Rotations
    Bev / Lin
    Harden / Lin
    Parsons / Casspi
    Millsap / TJones
    Howard / TJones

Keep Brewer for his defense. I would be sad to see Smith go, but there wouldn't be much need for him if this trade went through. It sounds like pure speculation to me.

Alot of people here REALLY underestimate how good Millsap is. I think the world of Jones, but if people are really worried about this trade because of Jones' minutes, you are really really getting homerfied.

It's fine that this thread fires off the Milsap discussion again, but there is ZERO news in this. It doesn't even imply that sources say the trade might happen; just that it is their opinion it makes sense.

As for the Milsap trade, it would be solid; not a disappointment but not exciting. Rockets would be a better team, and I think TJones still gets his minutes to develop.

And as far as the writer's take on ATL's point guard situation, that seems to be a temporary need, if at all. They are very happy with what Shroeder promises to bring. Some there are calling him a 'mini Rondo."

    Millsap + Brand
    for
    Asik + D-Mo or Smith

I think Elton Brand would be a great backup for Dwight for about 10 minutes per game.

He's old, yes but a great rebounder, defensive-minded hard worker, blocks a shot here and there.
Should be a good veteran influence as well.

And please, don't say he is undersized. He's about the same size as D-Mo (if not longer) and has been playing center for years.

He definitely wouldn't be buried even if they got Milsap, he could move to a 6th/7th man role and play backup 3, 4, and 5.

Jeremy will get packaged in any deal with Asik. Face it's gonna happen. It's for the better.

The one thing I am scared about with Millsap: we have NEVER as far back as I go taken a guy who was once a Jazz and then gotten anything productive out of him. It feels like the Stench of Sloan was just too strong, that somehow in these guys' brains a switch flipped, like some Russian spy, where they would come to Houston and then automatically do everything possible to sabotage the team.

I felt this way about Shandon Anderson and Antoine Carr. Ronnie Brewer hasn't done much bad, but he hasn't done much good either. We really haven't given him any opportunities for sabotage. Millsap on the other hand? Definitely something to think about with him...

Millsap is still so underrated. He's an excellent player (on a crazy good contract). I don't think Atlanta gives him up.

I'd rather Deng's expiring contract. Instant fix for the Rockets' perimeter defense and being a LeBron stopper is a nice bonus.

Free up cap room for this guy next year who won't command max dollars, wants to win, but can still give superstar production.

Millsap has been awesome for the Hawks though, despite being asked to do a lot (more than ideal) for them on offense.

I suppose you could argue that the Hawks running various motion staples of the Spurs offense may make life easier for Millsap in ATL, too, similar to what how the Jazz-system may have helped those other players to look good/better than they were, but the Hawks also run some wide-spread NBA sets and typical pick&roll settings, in which Millsap has been doing very well. I know this, because I've watched all Hawks games this year, since I'm into geeky hoops things like what kind of offense Mike Budenholzer runs. Fun team to watch, actually. One of the more watchable East teams.

Millsap just knows how to play. Sooo good at creating angles.

While I can see Jones traded, I don't think he has to be or is likely to be traded in such a scenario.

Jones may well play backup C, and get 25+ mpg between PF and C. He is big and long enough to actually protect the rim some. His offensive skills could force the opponent to either also go small to match up with him or suffer the consequences of having a big stiff trying to check Jones out to the perimeter.

Jones may not be an ideal candidate-- still needs to more consistently be in the right place to protect the rim-- but likely not a bad option compared to most of the other bench Cs.
