Even the question of Foles vs. Luck is questionable. If you asked me, I'd take Foles. Foles has really good skill players around him -- the offense is run-based, and he has LeSean McCoy. Their running attack is so good that it really opens up a vertical passing game, and that's why it's so easy for him to find players like DeSean Jackson and Riley Cooper in the endzone. RGIII has Alf and a good run-based attack, but he has just plainly sucked as far being a passer is concerned. Luck on the other hand has pretty much zero running game (unless you count Trent "half a yard" Richardson and a smattering of Donald Brown as a "running game"). He has also lost his #1 WR. That he is still able to pull off 2nd half comebacks week after week is a testament to his ability as a young QB. Put Luck in that Eagles situation and he's probably a top 4 fantasy QB.
Luck's stats this this year are similar to cam newton's stats last year, but people were saying cam sucked last year.
You're right...and there's also the fact that I think the bar is set higher for Luck because of who he is, so it seems like he is underperforming...whereas Foles wasnt expected to do nearly as well as he is now doing. Foles definitely has better offensive weapons around him, but he's still doing a good job of stepping up to the plate and executing...cant ask for much more than that.
Without speed, RG3 is a bad quarterback. All QBs slow down over time, which means that these mobile quarterbacks are not the way to build your foundation as an NFL franchise. Better to go with accurate passers who have the mental makeup to lead. Take note Texans, before you make the mistake of a lifetime on Teddy Bridgewater. Just say no to athletic QBs -- they don't get you to the promised land.
No one believes that RG3 is getting benched to preserve his health. He's getting benched b/c he's an ineffective qb. Have you even watched him this year? I've seen chunks of almost every Redskins game b/c I have NFL Sunday Ticket and Alfred Morris on a bunch of my fantasy teams. RG3 has disturbingly bad fundamentals. He makes poor decisions, has an inaccurate arm (on long throws), and can't even properly execute simple pitch plays. Until he fully regains his mobility and confidence, he's a liability.
Bridgewater isn't a dual threat, read option type QB. He's a pocket passer. He's mobile in the same way that Andrew Luck or Case Keenum are mobile, meaning that they're looking to pass first and foremost and only resort to running 1) when nobody is open and 2) when right opportunity presents itself. While he can move around, he only has 54 rushing yards this year and less than 150 for his career. You're not going to see him used like RGIII or Cam Newton. And he's been the most accurate QB in this draft, completing over 70% of his throws in a pro style system. I hope I read your post wrong because it seems like you think Bridewater is the exact opposite of what he's shown in college.
better completion% , yards per attempt, and passing than Andrew Luck... if he is playing on one leg outplaying Luck, then what is Luck now lol Luck has a career passer rating under 80, but is he benched
I've watched all of them. RG3 has the worst pass blocking and smallest offensive line in football and the least talented group of WRs in football. That, more than anything, plays into RG3's struggles. For a period of 5 games this season, RG3 was tearing it up in a fashion similar to last year...all because of one person, Jordan Reed. The Redskins actually had another option in the passing game besides Garcon (a glorified possession receiver) and they scored 30+ points in 5 straight games. And then what happened? Reed got a concussion and hasn't played in 3 straight games and as a result, the team can't score. Don't tell me this benching is because of performance, because Peyton Manning would struggle on this team, a team so lacking in talent that a tight end is returning kick offs. Sitting RG3 for the last 3 games of the season accomplishes absolutely nothing. He should have been sat the FIRST 3 games of the season after recovering from a brand new knee. Shanahan is perpetrating a fraud in order to get fired and collect $7 million.
While I agree with a lot of the above, RG3 is less accurate this year and slower at getting the ball out. The injury and lack of off-season set him back. And the $30M cap has hurt the team a lot.
I'll pass on Cousins & take our chances with the draft picks. I'm not a huge Keenum guy, but there's nothing Cousins brings to the table that Case doesn't. Not true at all. He always had speed & the attention didn't come until later. Sure, he'd be less dynamic, but he won the Heisman & got drafted 2nd overall because he put one of the prettiest deep balls around on display in huge moments throughout his junior year. Plus, he would deliver them from the pocket, rolling outside, back-pedalling, just before taking a huge hit, etc. Bridgewater is considerably more accurate throwing short-mid range passes, but his deep ball isn't what RG3's was coming out of college.
I fully agree with RG3 should have been on the bench until he was fully recovered, but shutting him down now isn't unreasonable either. Once a team is eliminated from the playoffs, shutting down your injury prone franchise player is reason enough for many. It's hard to argue unless you have them in fantasy(Please don't shut down AP...). Also, taking that time to inflate the value of your most tradable asset couldn't hurt. He's the only chance the Redskins have to recoup some of the draft picks they've thrown around over the last few years.
RG3's lack of mobility is the reason for his regression. Their offensive line is good enough for Alfred Morris to be consistently productive, and you're underrating their WR's. They may be one of the weaker WR groups in the league, but that's exacerbated by RG3's inaccuracy. It's laughable how inconsistent his deep throws are. They've only scored 30+ twice. In any case, look at their schedule. Did they have any high scores against good defenses? SF held them to 6 points. KC held them to 10. Shanahan had to start RG3 at the beginning of the season. RG3 told the media he was ready to go.
Zone-blocking for a run game & pass protection are two very different things. His mobility last season made up for a lot of those deficiencies, but without it the lack of pass protection has been obvious. Garcon & Reed are the only 2 pass catchers worth a crap.
