then the rockets could throw in their 2014 first round pick as well. honestly, the knicks second round pick is more valuable to Houston because the salary wont count against the cap. so philly would get two 2014 first round picks plus a 2014 second round pick and possibly a couple future second rounder's. that's not a bad haul for a rebuilding team. hell, they could even ask for a euro or two. and they would still have thad young to deal.
What about something like this? Spoiler I think we prob would send Garcia to Toronto, Orlando would send their Denver pick and a 2nd there and we send our 2nd and NYK's 2nd there Why we do it: Afflalo would be a great addition to our bench. He's a 43% 3 point shooter, can get to the rim and thankfully is a good perimeter defender as well. Johnson is a good backup big and can get rebounds and score in the paint. I'm not sure if he can play C but I think once Greg Smith comes back he and T Jones can hold down the 5 spot when Dwight is on the bench. If not we could always sign Okafor or something in January. As far as cap flexibility goes this move isn't the greatest, but both players are on reasonable contracts that we could either keep or flip at the deadline for the right deal. Why Toronto does it: They want Asik, they want picks, and they want to tank for Wiggins/Parker/Randle etc. They would get the lower of Denver and NY's first round pick and if they wanted to they could probably flip Valanciunas for another pick. D-mo would be a good replacement for Johnson and is young. Sure they have to take on Nelson's contract for another year, but they won't be close to contenders and have to reach the salary floor somehow after trading Gay, Derozan, and Johnson. Why Orlando does it. They get rid of Nelson's contract and replace Afflalo with a less polished, but equally talented player who is also 4 years younger. Lowry could either be kept or flipped at the deadline for a pick or 2 guard and Oladipo can move to PG, where Orlando sees him eventually. Orlando's starting 5 would then be Oladipo Derozan Harkless G Davis/Harris Vucevic plus their high lottery pick Derozan is probably better than any player they could get with Denver's 12-14 pick anyways, and this trade gives them another young, talented player in addition to what they already have. I think the main stumbling block to this trade is Toronto taking Nelson's contract. Maybe we trade Lin for a pick and a backup C but getting a pick this year will be difficult.
Now that's a deal that I can see Philly doing, especially with the addition of a Euro with that second first round pick.
Absolutely. I can't understand why anybody would like to have a hero-ball player like Melo on the team. He puts great personal stats on the board and the team loses. What exactly is attractive in that?
Asik+lin for Bosh+Chalmers. What do you guys think? Asik+lin for Bosh+Chalmers. What do you guys think? Bosh would provide spacing which would defnitely help out dwight. We dont really need lin but a pg like chalmers who can catch and shoot would be great with harden in the starting line up. Plus miami really needs some interior presence. Asik would be great over there
This would be wonderful, but I can't see Miami going for it this year (as long as they are seriously in the run for the title). You know, if its not broken, don't fix it.
idk, hibbert and west literally tore them up in the paint yesterday. they have no answer for hibbert.
I've been thinking a lot about what options may be available for Morey & the Rockets. As we all know Asik is going to be traded. There has also been some speculation around Lin and whether he is on the trading block too. I'm 50/50 on whether Lin gets traded this season but if you think he's not resigning at the end of his current contract, now is the time to trade him. I think all trades lead to 2015 free agent flexibility where we can sign a near max deal then resign Chandler Parsons. No contracts with 3 or more years remaining - this rules out Young and Elyasova. Build the team to compete now and sign Kevin Love in 2015. So with that in mind, here goes: Option #1: Lin & Brewer for Giannis Antetokounmpo, Caron Butler (or Brandon Knight or Ridinour) and 2014 lottery protected 1st round pick Asik for Milsap (Good PF to come off the bench and close games out) Bev/Brooks/Canaan Harden/Butler/Garcia Parsons/Antetokounmpo/Garcia Jones/Milsap/Casspi Howard/Jones/Smith/D-Mo Give the alphabet 10-15 mins a game to develop. With this roster i'd expect a fair bit of domination with both the starters and the bench. Option #2: Asik and D-Mo for Hawes & Turner Lin & Brewer for Caron Butler and Luke Ridinour and a top 3 protected 2014 1st round pick. Bev/Ridinour/Brooks/Canaan Harden/Turner Parsons/Butler/Garcia Jones/Casspi Howard/Hawes/Smith You then have 3 expiring contracts in Hawes, Turner and Butler and 2 2014 1st round picks to make a blockbuster trade at the deadline (all 5 assets for Love at the deadline if Minnesota are struggling to make the playoffs? They may throw in the towel and consider that their building around Love hasn't worked and the 2014 draft is the quickest and best way to rebuild. They could resign Turner and Hawes and turn it back around pretty fast.) That would give the Rockets Bev/Ridinour/Canaan Harden/Brooks Parsons/Garcia Love/Jones/Casspi Howard/Jones/Smith
It's interesting but Toronto doesn't get a pick in this deal, do they? The Knicks pick they already have. I think Toronto probably says no here, but who knows. The only reason for them to like Asik IMO is as an asset, but I think they lose this deal on assets.
Toronto has New York's pick in 2016. The Magic have this years NY pick thanks to the Dwight to LA trade. If this trade were to work out I think the Magic would give up that pick and we would probably give up ours as well. As far as Asik goes, the Raptors were one of the first teams that people linked him to, I'm not sure why they would want him either, but reports indicate that they do.
I don't think so...Bosh keeps defenses honest and opens up driving lanes for LBJ/Wade. Asik is surely an answer to Hibbert, but he'd hurt Miami against other opponents. What would Asik do against OKC in finals? Not much. Also with Bosh departing, they lose some scoring that would be replaced by Lin. However, Lin needs the ball in his hands to be effective, while Bosh does not. And if I recall correctly, Chalmers is a better defender than Lin.
Sorry, replace "I don't think so" with "I agree"...was going for another answer, but changed my mind after rethinking it a bit.
Love every bit of this trade, Especially the 2nd one!! Makes alot of sense, but then there alot of moving parts as well.
I love option 1... Having The Alphabet here so Olajuwon could work with him would be wonderful. That kid can play all 5 positions on the court. And the scary thing is he may still grow some more...
OKC trades: J.Lamb, Sefalosha, PJ3, Perkins, 2014 1st OKC gets: Afflalo, Hawes, J.Anderson OKC gets their stud 2, and a great offensive C in Hawes, who complements Adams (and is expiring). ORL trades: Afflalo ORL gets: Asik, PJ3 After PG, ORL's biggest need is an interior defender (Vuce is a 4/5 whose strengths are on O and on the glass, not on D). Plus, Hennigan likes mixing vets with young guys. PHI trades: Hawes, Anderson PHI gets: J.Lamb Philly gets a young off-ball 2 who complements MCW very well. They're apparently targeting him IRL. Turner can be moved separately. HOU trades: Asik HOU gets: Sefalosha, Perkins, OKC 1st I know, Perkins contract sucks. But we'd get a 1st and the wing defender we need, and with Asik's value dropping, that's about as good as we can do. Perkins, if nothing else, gives us some toughness and a locker room presence (as long as we keep him off the court).
