Just wanted to get a general sense of what our board wants. We know Morey has been trying to get a lottery pick, but that has yet to be successful, so I didn't include this. This is not a poll for pipe dreams such as LA or Love; just a poll to get realistic options at this point, considering that we have to trade him. 1) Thaddeus Young 2) Spencer Hawes 3) Evan Turner 4) Paul Millsap 5) Ryan Anderson 6) Ersan Ilyasova 7) MID First Round Pick
Id take Thaddeus Young because of his ability to play on the perimeter. He also has great length and jumps high....but..... I would only take him if he comes with Spencer Hawes...
It is a hard call really. I think we need someone else in the front court, and I think Milsap fits so well next to Howard and as a veteran professional presence the team desperately needs -- but I don't want to see Jones, who has been so good, completely relegated. I think Jones can come off the bench for Milsap and play next to him, so I think that might be the optimal thing to do for the team. But if the Rockets can get a really solid wing defender and a 3rd string center, I think that would be a good way to go as well. Morey often exceeds expectations though, so I think a major move involving Lin, Asik and Jones for a bigger name star player is actually within the realm of possibilities. I would be happy with Milsap though.
I am not a big fan of Hawes, but he is a center who can space the floor with his shooting and help us out. If he didn't have an expiring contract, I would chosen a Mid 1st round pick. I don't think Philly or any other team will give us a Mid 1st round pick.
I've been driving the Millsap bandwagon for almost 2 years now but I've finally went over the Spencer Hawes. A center that can shoot the 3 with an expiring contract? Sign me up.
The only reason why I didn't vote for Millsap was because Jones' development would get stunted. I would be surprised if Atlanta gives him up for Asik. I like your post.
I think Spencer Hawes would fit in great. Its a shame his contract ends soon and some team will probably pay him big.
One name thats not mentioned here is melo!!!!!!!!!!!! Melo over asik and lin with an expiring contract.
With Hawes, I question the feasibility of trading our disgruntled backup center for a starting center, relegating said starting center to backup center, and having him remain gruntled. Same goes for Turner - I see the negatives of that acquisition - (3 starting caliber wings who should NOT be benched) before I see the positives. Frankly PG and PF are the only positions that I would feel comfortable upgrading unless it's in a mega-deal that ships out the incumbent (and by incumbent I mean Parsons specifically as Harden and Howard aren't moving). To be honest the Jones emergence has complicated things on the Asik front. Now rather than a clear need we have a bunch of questions about whether Ilyasova upgrades Jones, or Deng upgrades Parsons, etc etc, and if not, why acquire them, and if so, how do you handle the deposed starter? Any fair value we get for Asik will be a player who himself won't want to be a substitute. What then? We get two lesser subs? A sixth man and a late first rounder? Overall things are muddled enough that I no longer see clear one-for-one trades that make sense for Omer. Millsap has been the dream since day 1 for me, and I stick with him as my favorite choice. After what we've seen from Asik this year though, I would turn down trades for him if I was either Atlanta or (in the case of Anderson, who I also want) New Orleans.
we will not get Anderson imo, and i'm not sure the others r a real upgrade over Jones who is playing very well and is stil very young, he will get better and better and i dont want to see him blossom elsewhere. i dont know if Turner would be a good fit here, but i believe he is the best player on this list, so him or a good pick would be fine for me
I'd be ok with anyone on that list, but Millsap is my favorite because of his contract and fit. After that I'd say maybe a top 5 or top 7 protected first round pick. Also, Evan Turner is just not happening.
With Terrence Jones' emergence, if we were to trade Asik, what we would need is a player that can play both the PF and C position. That way, we would lessen the dropoff from Jones and Howard to their backups, somewhat replace Asik's production, and still have enough minutes for that player. I'm not a fan of most of the players in the poll, but if I had to choose one, it would be Spencer Hawes.
We don't need a PF. We already have T.Jones who is doing an amazing job on both ends of the court. He rebounds, hustles, has decent range with his jumper and he can guard SFs like Durant, George etc. He is almost a perfect complement to DH and I am sure his jumper will develop. I hope we get a good winger who will come off the bench for Asik. A 2 or a 3 who can shoots a high% from the 3 and his a good perimeter defender. I'm thinking about Affalo or a similar player. This plus a pick.
