Parsons and Beverley are very lucky because they're given all opportunities to demonstrate their capacities as players That's all I can say.
Parsons is severely overrated, just as Beverley was. Initially, Beverley fans thought he would actually outplay Lin. Now he trending towards sub 40 fg % and a mediocre 33% fg.
There are something between 0 and 100. I never said there is nothing for thier performances. They do what the system gave them to do the best. But if giving consistent play time to other players as CP and PB, I am sure you will be surprised to see how many good players you have in the team.
I'm sure if we had a better option at the SF spot, he would be playing infront of Chandler.Who would " outperform " Chandler on this team if given the same minutes?
Parsons has a 61 TS%, only Lin is shooting better so far. He's far from overrated. Beverley is only starting because of his defense. He's done his job extremely well so far. Opposing PG's have been averaging the lowest PER this season among all positions despite this being a golden era of 1's.
We don't miss him in the short run because, as Clutch said, we have other guys who can fill the void somewhat. We will miss him when Harden can't sustain playing 40 mpg and Brooks starts to fall into a shooting slump. Lin is the only good playmaker besides Harden. Unless you want to ride Harden to death or watch the offense running through Howard's post game, relying on Beverley and Brooks to run the offense is not going to be enough long term.
Parsons is certainly not over-rated. He is the perfect complementary do it all glue player for this team with stars in Howard and Harden Now Bev is over-rated like I always stated. His impact has gone down drastically since starting. Just can't expect him to play high energy on the ball D for 32 mins as opposed to 16-18min. Either way, bev has to improve his 3 point stroke to around 38-40% at the least. Reason being that all his shots are always open shots. Teams are playing off him
I sure hope you weren't defending Lin when he was shooting the same 33% from 3 last season. But honestly, how is Chandler overrated at this point? Clutch's post is dead on. There is no even near-adequate backup for him on this team -- a fact that became glaringly obvious in his absence. He is pretty much the only rotational player where we don't have someone to stop the bleeding if/when he goes down. Pretty hard to be simultaneously indispensable and "severely overrated."
Lin was very good at the most times when he was playing this season, he even was labelled as a MVP of the team by some reports, now he is not missed? I can argue that rockets should beat the Jazz and the Sun with Lin because he can do something that Brooks can not do, still the coach can use Brooks when he is hot or play both Lin and Brooks at the same time. Persons is clearly missed for sure, but this is another argument which is nothing to do with Lin.
Parsons is not severely overrated, in fact no a player on the rockets is severally overrated. In my book we do even not have a player who is overrated by a NBA standard.
The opposing player's PER agains Lin is lower than against Beverly. The opposing 1 positions are outperforming Beverley but not Lin according to Basketball reference. These figures appear to indicate that Bev's performance is hurting the Rockets.
If you gave Omri's minutes to Parsons, I don't really know if he could even produce the same or better number as backups.
The sample size is too small to be conclusive either way. At least not without a significant amount of corollary data pointing in that direction, and an analysis that would factor in the varying PER's of opposition defended. And even then, would still be suspect due to sample size.
I think he means, in this league (or any sports even), a lot of it depends on luck. Get to put together a good string of games and the opportunity to showcase your skills and bam, you develop them at the right time, gain confidence and become a great player. Stuck on the bench or never receive consistent minutes and watched your pro career wither away? Happens a lot too. I mean, you see tons of players who go from doing poorly on one team and excelling at another. I always wonder what Anthony Randolph could have been...
Coaches evaluate players in practice and game minutes. Parsons and Omri go head to head in practice and play together so you don't have to be a basketball guru to see who the better player is . Yeah luck has somethings to do with it, but work ethic and skill in the end allways wins out.
