I think that Omer Asik has done some serious damage to himself. He demands to be the starting center. Many teams will think twice before taking a player who agrees to play only as a stater.

Daryl Morey does not have any obligation to look for a new home for Asik in a team that agrees to give him the starting job. I wonder what Asik does if that really happens?

Was going to respond to D12 fan's post but I see Rogower and Seeingred pretty much nailed the relevant points.

Love will be a FA. Minny doesn't want to lose him for nothing. Love doesn't have to RESIGN with any team he is traded too and thus holds the power. Same situation that Howard was in in Orlando.

Does Houston have the "best" offer? Probably not. But it doesn't matter. What really matters is does Houston have the "best offer from the teams Love will resign with"

...and/or can Houston come up with the best offer to trade for Love without his consent to stay? In other words, will Houston offer more than any other team to "rent" Love.

By the way...everything being discussed here applies to Melo the same way except there may be more urgency to move Melo at the deadline than to move Love.

Probably. Consensus was that the Rockets were willing to offer up the most for a Dwight rental when he was in Orlando.

Not that this would ever occur (this scenario makes no sense to me at all), but do you seriously believe that after the Harden deal, OKC and Houston are going to make another huge trade? Two teams in the same division? If a deal like that happened, you could knock me over with a feather. Not only that, but why on earth would the Bucks do it? And why on earth would the Rockets do it?

I love how you guys know what Kevin Love will and want do. You mean to tell me he wouldn't resign with his hometown Blazers or team up with Irving in Cleveland?

Morey traded for Harden now people think we can get whoever becomes available. The only reason we got Dwight because he was a FA. You guys can believe what you may, I don't think grabbing every star automatically makes us a championship team.

You do know that 1 team can only have 15 players right?

Would he laugh at Howard + Harden -> Lebron + filler?

You could offer Parson+Harden and Howard and Miami would turn you down in regards to LBJ.

Probably. But he wouldn't laugh at it IMO.

Right here, but no guarantee Love resigns. If he won't resign with the Twolves, the only difference on the Pistons is they're in the East... so he'd have a much easier shot to get to the playoffs... and that would at least interest him... but would it interest him enough to stay? Not sure. If they somehow managed to get better after he got there, either through FA, otehr draft picks, or Drummond's continued improvement, then maybe.

Also, consider he's a West Coast guy, having already spent a number of years in the north-central states.... Detroit?

Trade makes too much sense... except not clear the Clippers woulds till do it, given that the rise of the Clippers and Blake are synonymous.

Might depend on the pick included. Assume the Magic would want to lottery protect in 2014, and a top 10 in 2015, top 8 in 2016 type thing, which lessens the value to the Twolves. Also, becomes same question as Detroit. Once the Magic trade Oladipo, Harkless and a 1st rounder, what are they left with? Vucevic and Afflalo? Does that interest Love? .... which all goes to the draft pick protection. Vucevic, Afflalo, Love and a top 5 pick this year (that works out) might be interesting enough for him.

Not clear how much the Twolve would value this package. Thompson and Waiters are huge head scratchers. They'll have good games, then horrible games. Another question on the lotto pick protection. Varejao's value has gone down. He's an expiring now.

Not sure today the Blazers would do that... even though you could argue they should.... but the hot start is kind of hurting them there. Also, there's the fact that the package presented is almost worthless to the TWolves. LMA would have to want to resign, and the 1st rounder would be pretty crappy.

    ----

As you note, you could probably come up with other packages as well. It is most likely that the Wolves want young talent with meaningful upside PLUS multiple 1st round draft picks... OR a first round draft pick in this year's draft without lottery protection of any kind, that is likely to be a top 5 pick.

That's to move him this year. As to his desire to move... hard to see how he would turn down a trade in his favor right now.... and if he isn't being vocal now, he's going to get there soon. The only worse teams in the Western Conference right now are the Jazz and Kings. They're 3-7 in their last 10... though to be fair to the Wolves, part of that is Kevin's performance has slipped a bit in that stretch... but only relative to his crazy first 10 games. That's probably why you haven't heard any grumblings from him... cause he needs to focus on his game.

As for the Rockets... clearly this is a low low low probability. 1%? But still a chance. Because while the Rockets themselves don't have the assets the Wolves might want, they do have TJones, Asik, Lin and their draft picks... plus filler (with some value...DMo, Canaan).

Certainly, if Love puts out word through his agent he wants to end up with the Rockets, the Rockets have pieces that should be able to at least obtain a decent return for the Wolves...

The Perfect players for this team as constructed.

    1) Luol Deng
    2)Evan Turner
    3)Demar Derozan
    4) Nicholas Batum

Asik,DMO and a 1st for either of these 4 would put this team over the top.

As we saw recently, this team is not very good without CP25.
    Wing scorer with defense please!

Rather would want Taj Gibson from Bulls then Deng.. Spencer Hawes would be a more likely candidate than Turner... no way blazers give up batum.... so i guess maybe derozan, but i dont see morey going after him

This team does not need another quality 4.

It's weakness is perimeter defense. Taj is a good player but adding him for Asik does not improve this team.

I agree with this...all those people calling for Rondo just don't understand how F-up this offense would be with him on the team. Howard may never touch the ball again, not even in practice. He might just call Kobe, and be like...Yo Kobe, I had it good in LA with you mang.

This team needs a clean up guy...a good defender who can rebound...a Dennis Rodman type. There's no shortage of scoring so please stop trying to add offensive power when all that is gonna do is clog up the paint.
