Perhaps he's saying that everyone on the team needs to forget about defense and just put points up.

Strange quote by Harden. Rox seemed pretty in sync up until two games ago. If anything, James has looked at times a bit outside what's going on on the court.

Dwight Howard Blasts Houston Rockets, Calls Effort 'Piss-Poor'

It seems like Dwight Howard needs a hug.

After the Houston Rockets' loss to the Phoenix Suns on Dec. 4, Howard was at his mopey best in describing his team's poor showing.

Per CSN Houston's Adam Wexler, Howard said:

It was piss-poor effort out there on defense and offense. The ball stuck tonight and we didn’t move it and we can’t win that way.

They just played harder than us. It’s got to be important for guys to come out and play the same way every night. Guys have to come out and play, no matter how many guys are out. (Guys need) to play as hard as you can and trust the next guy to come in and play the same way. They outworked us.

ESPN will always twist some negative sh** to be more than what it actual is so it could boost up its ratings.

If Dwight was unhappy he 1st needs to look at in the mirror because I've seen plenty of games where he didn't give max effort like he eluded to in this interview.

I am also pretty sure Harden and him are cool peeps, therefore if he had a problem he would talk to the man instead of using the media to get his point across.

As leaders of this team both Harden and Howard needs to get their freaking acts together. I've seen players role players on this team play harder than them.

These last two games both Howard and Harden should have stepped up their max contract games to will this team to victories against a scrub team (Jazz) and a mediocrity team in the Suns.

They should hold a players only meeting.

Figure it out all in the air.

Figure out where they want to be this year, how they want to play, and hold themselves accountable and communicate.

Dwight Howard: "It has to be important for guys to come out and play the same way every night." Apparently, it's not.

The Big Fella needs to practice what he PREACH, bottom line.

When has Howard let his man run past him or fell asleep on defense?

When Harden was out, we looked good still. But when Parsons is out, we don't look too good.

Is Dwight dominating 80% of the games this season dude?

Does Dwight allow the refs to take him completely out of some games?

These last two game against teams we should have beaten what did Dwight do offensively?

Keep it 100 like I told you on the Chronicle GoRock.

Howard has got to be the leader of this team. I want him to call out players, maybe not publicly but privately. Text them, call them, just have talk with them.

I don't disagree with Dwight, but I think a lot of our problems over the last 2 games tie back to key injuries and minutes played.

We have 3 quality ball handlers on this team: Harden, Parsons, and Lin. With Parsons and Lin out, Harden has played 43 and 41 minutes, respectively. Also, both Beverley and Brooks have put in significantly more minutes over the last two games than they are averaging for the season. When you are tired, the first thing to shut down is your brain. I'm sure it takes a higher level of thinking to move the ball around than it does to just jack up shots, so we're defaulting to the easier route.

Admittedly, I didn't realize how important Parsons was to this team. He always gives you something, even if its just passing the ball to the next guy. Lin is important, but he's more specialized than Parsons is. I'm looking at Parsons now and thinking "$12 million a year doesn't sound so bad..."

Missing Parsons on both ends on the court. Casspi & Garcia are also poor defenders.

How can he call people out about inconsistency/lack of effort when he's guilty himself?

This goes back to the veteran leadership aspect we've been discussing in a few threads lately. This team needs somebody who's been in the game -- someone older who is proven, but isn't competing for the spotlight. Someone like that is much more likely to have an effect than a peer who engages in the same poor habits as you do.

Joseph ended up doing nothing, and the Spurs lost by 10+ points. If we had taken Harden out and we lost, many would have complained that we didn't bring our superstar in.

Moreover, Parker only had 4 points and still played for the vast majority of the game.

    Harden had 14 points.

Finally, with all our injuries, the Rockets do not have as much depth as the Spurs usually do.

Overall, I just don't think that's a valid example for these reasons:

    1. It was not a successful replacement on Pops' part.

    2. While Harden had a bad game overall, he still didn't play as "awful" as Parker did. Harden scored several times as many points as Parker did.

    3. Rockets had half of their roster injured between the 1st and 2nd units.

Considering less than 3% of players actually play defense these days, yes I think we would have this problem with almost any NBA head coach.
