Hey SMUROCKET, what year are you at SMU? I just graduated from there this past december, wonder if i knew you?
Excellent points. It doesn't take a Jason Kidd to dump the ball down to a Hakeem, Shaq, or a Yao. Just a point guard that is willing to do so.
My contribution.... C'mon Doc! Give us something else, dammit! Of course, this thread has gotten so ridiculous that Doc has probably stopped reading it, like the rest of us probably should do, but we don't, just in case Doc hasn't stopped reading this and gives us another nibble....
The same can be said for any big time shooter/scorer. Who were Michael Jorden's point guards in Chicago? The problem with the Rockets is the scorer is the point guard. When the offense features the point guard, he has to be surrounded by players who can shoot, not guys who need to drive to the basket to score. (I don't think I need to name Moochie, Mobely and Posey's names here do I? Oops, did it anyway). j
Marbury is a lot like Francis. So how does your theory explain this? Player............ FG%....3PT% Shawn Marion .333 .200 Penny Hardaway .375 .300 Joe Johnson .385 .000
If you are going to use that sample, it proves my point. They are playing .500 ball in the playoff. In the West .500 ball doesn't get you to the playoffs. Regular season they were 42/39, 45/36 and 41/34. Very comparable to Mobely, Posey and the Rockets other outside shooter, Eddie Griffin. Oh yeah, and they only won 1 more game. If you want to say my theory is wrong, show a team that's better than the Rockets that has a point guard as the focus of an offense that doesn't have outside shooters and no ball movement. j
Does it strike anyone as odd that Kenny Thomas was traded ostensibly to make room for Eddie Griffin, and now Griffin is trade bait? Sure, we can talk about trading him with Mobley for someB[rand]ody, but wouldn't it be nice to give him another year or two as a backup, to see what happens to him? The kid is twenty. Yes, that was an excuse. I think being only twenty years old and in your second season in the NBA is a brilliant excuse. Why not package Rice with Mobley instead? Big expiring contracts are, if you believe everything you read, pretty freaking valuable. And Donald Sterling, from what I hear, is all about value. Most teams would kill to have a backup PF with that kind of potential.
Perhaps there are some thoughts of bringing back Rockets of old? PG-EAST-Sam Cassell PF-WEST-Robert Horry SG-EAST-Emanuel Davis?? These were just random observations. Though I think the first 2 are real likely. Hey doc, are these 3 suggested players supposed to be STARS, SUPERSTARS, or just role players?
Heres what i think are the rockets top 3 at each postion. PG= 1. alvin williams 2. jamal crawford 3. kevin ollie SG= 1. jon barry 2. lucious harris 3. reggie miller PF= 1.elton Brand 2.rasheed wallace 3.zach randolf
