Your first post is a thread about Omer Asik, but you were still able to bring Lin's role off the bench & perceived mistreatment into the discussion. You will fit in well here on Clutchfans.
The Rockets payed him the most he could possibly make and gave him a year of being a starting center. Stuff happens and while it is understandable he wants to start and play more minutes, he should understand the Rockets in no way intentionally screwed him over.
Exactly what I was thinking. At least Lin is a man of his word, you won't see him whining like many of his fans.
Lin's stats aren't suffering. He's playing the same minutes, but in an allotment better suited to maximise him. Asik on the other hand...
But you have to look at the big picture for Omer, not the Rockets, how much money will he cost himself in future contracts if he "accepts his role" as a backup player. 7ft centers who are prime shot blockers and double double machines are literally worth hundreds of millions of dollars over the course of their careers. Omer's stats will go down as a back up. Less playing time =Lower stats = less money. What about Morey's word? Morey told Asik "come to Houston and you and Lin are goin to be the main guys." That has has turned out not to be the case. Lin and Asik have lived up to their end of the deal with their play. Due to the signings of Howard and Harden and to an extent Beverly, Morey can not live up to his end of the deal. Every Game Asik is a back up his future value goes down. This is not what he signed on for. He's agreed to play compentent tough basketball in until the Rox can move him. Thats fair. All the denigration toward him is bull. I even noticed Bill, Clyde and Bull making some snarky comments about him when he was benched. That's not right. The man has a right to fulfill his potential.
Lin only gets brought in because he and Asik are in similar positions. Both were told they would be the big two in Houston. Both have been benched in favor of other players. Lin has decided he doesn't mind and will not protest. That's his choice. He is willing to accept the future career consequences of being a bench player for the team. Nothing wrong with that. Omer decided that he DID mind and will not accept a demotion that could hurt his future earning potential when he knows the value of his talent. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. This idea of "give up your potential for the team or you're a whiner" mentality is crazy. I frankly am proud of Omer or standing up for himself and not letting others dictated his future and potential.
This is stupid. Why in the world should a Rockets fan give a sh** about what Omer Asik THINKS is best for his career? In what bizarro universe should Rockets fans accept things that are bad for the team? Why should I consider what Omer wants as more important than what I want?
If you think this, then you simply don't know basketball. Or even have watched the Rockets this year. Lin can get starter minutes coming off the bench. Asik cannot. Lin can put up huge stats as a backup. Asik cannot. Lin can get paid like a starter in his next contract and no team can use his backup role against him because he's still putting up 17ppg. Asik cannot. The Rockets can play Lin at multiple positions, playing two-PG sets, playing 3-guard sets. The Rockets cannot play Asik in two-center sets or 3-big men sets. The fact that you ignore all of the above very critical differences to Asik and Lin's situation is quite telling.
TheTruth of the matter is Asik has already signed a nice contract with us after only being a backup in Chicago. While he may be able to produce double doubles on a nightly basis, that won't get him a ring. Asik is a very GOOD center, but his hands on offense keep him from being great, therefore even with starting minutes his weaknesses would show. In actuality the Rockets are doing him a favor by letting him come in and do what he does best, defend and rebound. This will make other teams think he's better than he actually is and make someone overpay for him on his next contract. (Gortat)
That word potential gets a lot of players into trouble, especially on the college level. Many players are told of their "potential" by their agents and friends and become big headed, as I think Asik is doing a little bit here. He's a starting center right now for a lot of teams, true, but his contract for this year and next year is already set regardless of where he plays. Therefore if he goes elsewhere and starts and doesn't live up to their expectations he won't see a next big contract.
Seriously if Omer Asik was black, eveyone on this message board would be pretty mad at his decision for wanting a trade, and that's the sad honest truth. smh. I remember when Lowry demanded a trade a couple of years ago everyone was crucifying him. PITIFUL
How many other threads are you going to copy and paste this into? http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=247668&page=6
I think it's pretty obvious at this point that Asik is going to be a prima donna about this. Even after he demanded a trade when we signed Howard, a lot of people (including me) said 'oh, he'll be a professional and be responsible and play his best.' But demanding a trade a second time (and more-to-the-point, leaking it to the press) when he lost the starter spot seals it for me. If he's not traded by the deadline, he'll pout again. He'll probably be miffed if he's not traded on Dec 15. And he'll act up again if he's here opening day next season. I expected him to act like a pro, and sure it would have been nice, but I think he'll end up being a distraction instead, so I think it's important to trade him by the deadline. Unfortunately, counterparties also know, which hurts our leverage.
Dude everyone was upset about him asking for a trade. IIRC there was even like an Asik hate thread. I really hope he just accepts his role. If he can accept it and play like he did last year and solidify our bench, it could be huge for this team. I honestly don't see us trading him unless it's for an absolute steal.
Asik was getting loads of well-deserved hate posts after he refused to play. Those anti-Asik posts have largely stopped because he quickly apologized and has played with a good attitude since. That doesn't mean that people don't remember, though, or that they (we) won't turn on him quickly if he starts pouting again.
Yep, I was so angry I had to come out of years of lurking just because of it. I have never in my life been as angry with a player as I was with Asik. The Rockets made a big sacrifice and an incredibly nice goodwill gesture toward Asik by experimenting with twin towers. I defended Asik during the first wave of trade rumors over the summer, and I though TT has potential. Everybody on the team gave up a little something to keep their bro happy.... so when he pouted and demanded the trade publicly, it was like he ****ted all over the team and the fans and the city. I try not to think about it anymore because it still pisses me off. But the team is winning right now, so things have appeared to cool down. Now just wondering what magic Morey can cook up to salvage this mess.
