I thought it was a good idea at first, but looking down the stretch, its a looong time till the FINALS!

Bad idea. Most of them will end up lopsided. 4-1 or Sweep.
Imagine going to 7 games in the FIRST round?!
and two more rounds like this to go BEFORE the finals even begin?

These guys are gonna be beat by the time the finals roll around!
I'd rather see some energetic playing in the FINALS than a few extra games in the 1st round.

    Any opinions?

    it's all about $$$

more games equals more advertising dollars and more money for the NBA

it is a business after all...

    No, it's was/is a stupid idea.
Especially considering the fuc|<ing gaps in between games.

I like it. By playing best of five in the first round, you're basically saying that the first round is less important, which isn't true. It also helps prevent cheap first round upsets

Actually, best of 5 makes it more important. Every game means something in a best of 5 series, where in a best of 7 series there is room to slip up and take a break for a game or two. I'm more than okay with a "cheap" first round upset. If a top seeded team can't get motivated for a 1-8 matchup, then they deserve to lose. Plus, the first round usually has some of the worst match ups, so why not finish it quickly?
