Can you imagine if we traded Asik and ended up with two lottery picks in this upcoming draft?

    The works of Morey bargaining.

Set prices high. By december Morey will get just 1 first rounder and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

I think this is exactly what is happening. Both Lin and asik are just waiting to be traded. Morey is just waiting for Dec 15 to come around.

Actually we got two first round picks (#16 and #18) plus Roy Rogers for Kevin Willis. Rogers was a former first round pick though. Rogers never played here as he was included in the sign and trade for Pippen.

Depends on how good is your GM. It can be turned into an impact player, a star, or a good piece for the future. Realistically, it can help you rebuild at least partially every year. With Morey, I think those 2 picks will be very good... Fingers crossed...

Call up Sacramento and offer Asik for Thompson/1rd pick.

If the Rockets are serious about contending THIS year, then we need to at least get a backup C back in a deal.

Players I could imagine backing up Dwight admirably are Zaza, Robin Lopez, Koufus, Faverani, Brand. Anyone else?

I like the idea of Robin Lopez + a pick. If we can add a solid player that the Pels would want, then they could give up 2 picks. They're too much of a middle of the road team to think about tanking, so they might not value their 1st rounders as much as other teams, even if it is a lottery pick.

True, a 5 pick and a 2014 first round pick
Morey can ask for the same

What are you talking about? This kind of short term mentality is the reason why the Cavs suck ass despite 5 years of rebuilding. Dh and Harden arent even 30 we have a long window of contention not just this year.

First round picks are much more valuable now, as rookie scale contracts are more desirable under current CBA rules. A lot of people, like Zach Lowe, think that first rounders are beginning to be overvalued -- and that the market will be correcting itself somewhat.

This is the haul Phoenix got for Gortat -- I could see Asik fetching something similar from a "win now" team (Milwaukee, Dallas, or Cleveland, perhaps) along with a prospect or a decent backup Center. A pick like this would put us in a good position to package it with our own first rounder into a sweetheart deal for a disgruntled second-tier star.

Personally, I see it as more likely that we get a future pick and a prospect (similar to a T-Rob) and take back some dead weight salary.

Remember, T-Mac fetched a first rounder and a swap. Granted, the market for picks/salary was different, and the climate was changed by the 2010 free agency bonanza, but Asik should net us significantly more than the ghost of McGrady.

Ugh, I don't want Ronnie Brewer Part II.

I want that 1st rounder though!

Even Morey has said on the radio that this year he's just hoping for HCA. Being a real contender for the championship this year is a long shot.

Morey is still planning with a long window of contention in mind. Don't forget that this team is still crazy young.

    Dwight 27, Harden 24, Parsons 25, Lin 25, Beverley 25, TJones 21, Dmo 23, Greg Smith 22, Brooks 28....

So yes, getting a back up center is nice, but it doesn't make sense to throw away a potential piece to the puzzle for a player that is considerably easier to get like a back up Center.

I expect that if a good back up Center shows up as part of a trade package that Morey won't hesitate to get them, but don't expect it to be a priority over getting another All Star or potential All Star.

Once the core team is fully sorted out, then you just have to trust Morey will do his typical wheeling and dealing to fill out the missing pieces.

It'd be idiotic to put all our chips into this year. With our current roster we have a window of opportunity of three to five years. If the picks are for this draft we could find treasure in that draft class that could propel us to dynasty status.

After watching this team last year when Asik went off, a backup C is a must, and Morey knows that.

    1.backup C

2.a few mid-level contracts, because our current contracts leave no flexibility, all of our tradeable players make peanuts

    3.Picks

Morey wants to address the Asik situation without hurting us this year and keeping us in a predatory situation moving forward.

If a star becomes available this changes, but I expect the Asik trade will be more of a phase 1 deal.

    WTF can you read?

I said this year, nobody said anything about the future.

Hahn is reliable, but very Knickish (and NYish). The Lin disinformation continues thru Omer IMO.

    Buy free, sell high.

I wonder what he's asking for Jeremy.
