Parsons, is almost in one list with Harden and Howard and his salary would adjust, for what he worth. Casspi, is much better than what people think he is and can play as a Pf and as a sf and if he will maintain his abilities (and he did for a decent period of time already) So his worth would accommodate reasonably. Logically, neither parsons, nor Casspi Would like to leave a good system and the system wouldn't like them to leave either. Therefore... all would be flexible and matters would be resolved. But we have a long way in front of us...
On a side note (since this is the only Casspi thread on the front page now): I've been impressed with Casspi's ball-handling skills this season, but I've still felt that he's overdone it at times, especially on the fast break, when there have been easy passes available to guards or Parsons either running right with him or even up court from him. I've been happy to note that in the last few games he's been passing early more often, speeding up the break for the whole team.
There is a big assumption underlying my statement--Parsons wants to stay more than getting paid. Then the vacuum situation could occur and Casspi could have been used to drive down his price. But like you said, this vacuum situation won't occur because that assumption was simply unrealistic.
The nice thing about Casspi is that we have him for this year and next. That will give us plenty of time to find out exactly what he really is and if he is going to play his way into a big contract. It will also give us time to see what a player like Robert Covington is incase Casspi plays himself into a contract that is bigger than the Rockets are willing to pay.
I agree with Ben. Casspi wanted to come to Houston while he was still at the Cavs, and it fell trough at the time. He knows that its a team where he can fit and contribute. I truly believe it is not about the money for Casspi, otherwise he would have collected a bigger paycheck in Europe. He wants to continue to live his dream of playing in the NBA, contributing to a contending team. He seems genuinely happy here, and is in the process of finding his exact role on the team. So far, so good. Oh, and I doubt he is considered a plan B in case Parsons leaves. He's a good bench player for a deep team, not a starting forward om a contender.
casspi is here to play in a winning team, it's not about the monney. if he can keep the good work and improve his game here in Houston, I'm sure that he will settle for less monney, just to stay in great team an a environment.
He'll be a different player when he has some playoff experience in his background. The rockets wouldn't be 12-5 without his contribution of his bench. He has made mistakes but his defense and his scoring has had an impact. He's a weirdo but the Rockets are a collection of weirdos. Dwight Howards - the comedian James Harden - the beard Chandler Parsons - the hair Jeremy Lin - the nerd Patrick Beverly - thinks he's wolverine Terence Jones - stomping on a homeless man Omer Asik - wants to be traded Francisco Garcia - acts like a gangster The guy with a mohawk The coach talking about basketball philosophy Clyde Drexler The Rockets are a team of weirdos.
