About titio Maddox, I would like to point out that way back when he was drafted I posted on here that he is a worthless thug and I was berated for that and told to give him another chance...I was right and you were wrong.
SMU Rocket, so your two posts are about Maddox The Thug. Talk about being the expert on a very small, minor BBS niche of information. kudos though.
For the sake of argument, lets say the Rockets are a much better organization than Cleveland or the Clippers. I would say that Donyell Marshall and Matt Harpring were considered less than ordinary before they got to Utah. They both performed much better than they had previously. I personally think a Miller/Francis backcourt would be deadly.
Re-reading my post, after posting, it looks a little disjointed. The point I was trying to make was that in agreeing with Lynus and Verse, Miller or anyone else could be expected to play better by moving to a better organization. Marshall and Harpring were my examples of such.
Please can we stop the hogwash of mentioning Samuel Cassel in any trade talks! Please Sam I not a POINT GUARD. And he is not a better 2-Guard than Stevie or Mobley. He pouts too much too.
While I don't know if the info offered by Doc Rocket is true, I know that there is no way that the Rockets will stand pat. They HAVE to put bodies in the seats, and I can't see this team doing that very well. Attendance was decent this year because of the curiousity surrounding Ming, but with no major improvement to the roster and over 2,000 more seats, not to mention luxury boxes to fill, expcet some decent moves. I know that we have tried to make some pretty substantial deals in the past that have fallen through for one reason or another, some that would have suprised some of you. I know that from when I worked with some of the guys in the off-season, some need to drastically improve their work ethic or they will never grow as a player. As far as GP, NO WAY! The guy is a stud and I think he will be a terrific player in the league for several more years. BUT, what happens when he gets pissed off and whacks someone over the head with a DB in the weight room? Remember the fight he had with Maxwell? They went after each other with DBs. Cassell? Maybe, I am affraid all O, no D Miller? this guy could be terrific surrounded by the right players, ie guys that aren't worried about next year's impending free agency. Kidd? It's nice to dream isn't it. The thing to remember about playing with a good big man is the role of PG is slightly diminished. Think about the teams with great big men. For every one that had a great PG I can think of one or two that had mediocre ones. Is Fisher a "great PG"? What about Kenny the Jet Smith? Tony Parker is good but not YET stellar, although he may have the tools to one day be great. Minn. earened a 4th seed in the west with Hudson as their point. Notice I said "slightly" obviously a great PG would make life much easier, I am just not sure it is 100% needed to be successful if you have the right group together. When you run an offense through the low post YOU HAVE TO HAVE OUTSIDE SHOOTING! When the rocks played well this year was when the outside shots fells creating room for the big guys to work and to drive to the hole. The guy to go hard after is obviously Brand. This would give us the best front court in the west, hands down. This guy brings it every night, won't complain about shots, and plays tough D. He would compliment Ming perfectly, and when one has an off game just run plays for the other. Then we need Jon Berry to provide outside shooting from the bench. Then get a point that plays decent D with some outside touch. If we could also parlay a SF with some touch from behind the arc, we'd be set. And for those that want us to stand pat, look at the team in the west, and tell me who is going to realistically drop-off next next year? Maybe Utah if they lose Malone and Stockton, that's it. Besides the point is to compete for a championship, not an 8th seed! memo to Les: If you build it, they will come! Yao Brand Nachbar or some other shooter(B. Barry?) Francis anyone that can play D and hit 3s Cato MoT Tmo Jon Berry Hawkins
I probably shouldn't say anything, but I know we have tried to obtain SAR in the past, but Memphis wanted someone we wouldn't give away at the time(I can't remeber who it was though). I remember a couple years ago we almost had LaFretnz for everyone's favorite whipping boy, straight up. I believe that our personnel people aren't bad at all. Everyone likes to say we drafted Collier and he sucks - who else was there in that darft that was available to us. Actually the drafting of Collier netted us an extra pick from Mil., so I think that was a wash. Everyone likes to point out that we passed on Lewis, but we ended up signing Pippen that year, and didn't keep the Turkish guy we drafted instead anyway. You could say that we took Drew over him, but LOTS of people thought that he was going to be the next Stockton - remember the off balance game winning 3 he hit in the NCAAs? I believe he won 2 games in that tourney with last second clutch 3s. I have faith that we will be able to bring in some much needed help this off season.
stevel, thanks for the response. hmm, lafrentz? ok, that gives me some sort of idea what his market value is (i'm thinking it's still the same now and it was then). oh, and the player they didn't want to give up in the SAR deal was griffin, i believe.
ooops. you did say memphis...which would imply a few years ago. i take it you haven't heard anything specific on what direction they want to go this summer?
stevel, i assumed you were referencing mobley... but when you say he's much taller, i have to reconsider. it better not be who i think it is. you know, the tall foreigner on the team?
"I remember a couple years ago we almost had LaFretnz for everyone's favorite whipping boy, straight up. " A COUPLE YEARS AGO! The tall foreigner was not here yet.
