That was during the time when McHale was away for his daughter's funeral and they were texting and McHale was giving him sound advice before he started "coaching". Not really sounding evidence that speaks for the past two years he's been with Lin, especially when that comment happened in the beginning of last season.
I tend to agree with you that I doubt everybody is totally supportive of mchale as fans like to believe. I didn't realize the TNT crew was the standard for popularity.
Who hasn't abused Kevin McHale? I have it on good authority from several sources that he is into that kind of thing.
Other than the"father figure", "respect","x times champions", "hall-of-famer", comments, I don't remember Jeremy ever praising McHale for his coaching skills. He said D'Antoni is an "offensive genius"; Sampson is a "great basketball mind"; Pop is "classy"; and in a post-game interview he credited the other team's coach (I forgot which team) for his substitution. Jeremy loves everyone because the bible and his parents told him to, but he doesn't seem to think much of McHale as a coach. But then, the feeling is mutual - McHale never sees Jeremy as a great player or has the potential to become one.
lol I wouldn't think much of Mchale as a coach either, how would I assess him? His substitution patterns are completely random and have no logic
Kevin McHale and Rudy Tomjanovich Both were Allstar forwards Both born in the Midwest Both of Croatian descent Both are known as "player's coaches" Both kind of screwed up when they had control of the front office Both are accused of letting a star guard go ISO too often Both made use of the "spread 4" and emphasizes 3 point shooting Both coached/coaches a top center Both have had to deal with an unhappy incumbent when the team acquired a star Both hate Jeremy Lin
How do you know this? I thought he got superstar treatment last game. He played all the third quarter and first few minutes of the 4th. Then with the game still close McHale took Lin out at the 10 minute mark with what I feel was the intention of giving him 3-4 minutes rest before having to go out there and finish the game. JVG used to do this to TMac, and McHale has done it with Harden a lot as well. Trouble was, the 5 on the floor were playing so well and extending the lead that he didn't want to risk messing up the good thing. Howard didn't even get back in the game.

Agreed. McHale has many times referred to Lin as "the Asian dude" who should be "doing economics" instead of playing basketball. In fact, several sources once stated that McHale threatened Lin if Lin continued to play well, which may explain why Lin has been struggling to shoot the last few games.
Well Mchale's job is to have the team win, not to have Lin have the best career he can have, and seeing that the team is 10-5 and fifth in the Conference he is doing his job.
haha yeah, anytime he sees his own blood, almost without fail, he turns it up another notch. this is a guy that once dislocated his shoulder in the middle of practice as a rookie at GS, and popped it back into place just so he could stay in.
Rudy T was punched by Kermit Washington; Kevin McHale clotheslined Kurt Rambis; i.e. both involved in savage on court violence. It's like they're the same person.
Where did I say McHale's job is "to have Lin have the best career he can have"? On the same token, it's Jeremy's job to do what the coaches tell him to (which he is doing), and not to consider McHale a great coach.
Tinfoil hat conspiracy theorists cannot be reasoned with. They will always spin things in a way to convince themselves of the correctness of their conspiracy theory.
I don't know about the whole McHale hates Jeremy thing. But I do think that McHale has a view of his ceiling that is probably much lower than what Morey thinks it is or fans of lin's game think it is.
