Smith gets more ASTs, and can play any position in the frontcourt.

Bump this thread when Jones develops a passing game.

Let us see. Smith is obscenely athletic while Jones is just athletic. Smith is one of the top 10 defensive players in the NBA while Jones is well, Jones. Smith creates an offensive mismatch whenever he steps on the court, while Jones is basically only a cut to the basket scorer. Smith can rebound anywhere and everywhere, while Jones relies on the chaos created by Howard to get his rebounds. This may change in the future, but it is a fair evaluation of Smith versus Jones today.

Jones has the defensive potential, but he isn't there yet, not even close. Thankfully, he also hasn't picked up any of those bad habits yet.

Jones has a higher bball iq than josh smith IMO. Jones can develop into a mills app level player.

It helps that he played guard because he's a late bloomer. He has potential to develop into a decent passer/ playmaker, like a poor mans Garnett.

I use to want Smith... He has talent, extremely athletic, and great defensively but the boy is dumb... He's always doing dumb 5h!t on the court _ specifically the offensive end. He'll lose his mind and go jump shot crazy... Throwing up brick after brick... I hope Morey sticks with TJ before he would think about bringing in Smith.

I've always said they were very similar. Smith can fill a boxscore, but he's not a great defender on ball and his shot has always been suspect. Jones is a natural who can make the game look easy. The guy is 6'9 250 can handle and hit his head on the rim. Jones is big, quick, and athletic enough to guard pretty much anyone. Smith is more sf body, tweener game. Not a good ball handler or able to attack off the dribble.

Agreed. And I think that's a huge equalizer.

For all the arguments that Smith is a better passer and has a better vertical - which are fair comparisons, are more than made up by the fact that Jones just seems like a smarter, more controlled player.

Terrance Jones has way better basketball IQ than Smith. Never wanted Josh Smith on this team

TJ has been playing GREAT defense. He contest shots very well and moves his feet very good against wing defenders. Not to mention his ability to block shots. But most of all, he plays defense with effort.

Nice call OP. Strange enough, TJones might become a better player than Josh Smith. Wouldn't that be special!

people are underestimating how good Smith is defensively. Problem is offensively he's always had r****ded shot selection.

Josh Smith is more athletic and can guard several positions... for now he is the better player. He may make a lot more money, but you can only have 5 guys on the court at once... If we can turn Asik into Josh Smith I would be all over it.

I have a feeling that the Rockets organization told Asik to calm down about his trade requests and that they were pursuing some trades that cannot be consummated until December 15th.... Josh Smith would be in this category.

    The truth, indeed.

The man's averaging 17 pts (.46 3PT%), 8 rbds, and nearly 2 blocks per game over his last 5.
