    Tinsley/Moochie
    Francis/Barry
    Posey/Rice/Nachbar/Morris
    Taylor/NOBODY!
    Yao/Cato

Hmm...Hmm...Pacers would definitely accept to get Griffin. They would need to add at least a 2nd round pick or somethin...

But then we would have no power forward! Try to get Bender? Or Harrington? Or Foster?

    C -- Cato
    PF -- Yao
    Sub -- MoT

Sub MoT in as the PF, and one of the 2 big guys rests. Later that guy comes back in as C and the other C gets his rest. 3 guys playing 2 positions.

    Rinse, repeat with the guards:
    PG -- Tinsley
    SG -- Francis
Sub -- ? East coast SG?

The sub comes in, Tinsley goes out, Francis moves to PG. When Francis needs a spell, Tinsley comes back in. 3 guys playing 2 positions.

The only matter left is small forward.

What about Jay Williams? He had a dissapointing season but the talent is there. His stock cant get any lower and with Crawford the bulls just might be looking to deal J-Will and cut their losses. Its a gamble but the upside is huge.

It doesn't work out cap wise, but if they throw Crawford in to it, it goes.
And we are talking about a PG, they aren't known for being huge players are they...
And Terry can definetly do it on both ends of the floor. You are wrong about his defense.

My first thought was that we need a PG who thinks pass first to pair with Francis. Now I come to think of it, that is not necessarily true. Francis is half of a point guard, now that he has played 4 years at that position. So all we need is another half of a point guard. No?

The point is, Francis is a so-called combo guard. Having two combo guards together might not be a bad idea. We just need somebody who is a competent ball-handler and makes good decisions. Doesn't have to be a pure point guard. I still think Payton fits best. The best thing about Payton is his defense, better than all of the other guys.

I really hope the Rockets can get T.J. Ford!! I have that great feeling that T.J. is our answer! He can push the ball foward sending his teammates to move around and be active. We can use the 5-man motion or whatever its called if Rudy wants to use it if we can land Ford on the team, because im sure it would work when T.J steps foot at the PG spot. PLEAASEEEEEE GET FORD!!!!

for some reason i think we will end up getting payton.

    my reasons :

    a. he is a allstar vet who will yell at anyone even steve.
    b. he is tall for a pg 6'4 or taller and plays good d.
    c. he would put fans in the seat like yao did this year cause he is a big name player,it will help our new arena attendence.

the other thing is steve and tj ford r good friends dont know how but i heard it on espn or sumthin so that could happen also but the chances r slim.

payton is the pg i think we will get he still has about 4or5 good years left so he should get his chance at a ring in 2-3 years if yao develops.

I have said this before. Even if Francis is the 2, he's not a shooter, he has to have the ball in his hands to score. Our starting "point" guard is really just going to bring the ball up to Francis and spot up at the 3 point line like Maloney did with Drexler. That means Cassell won't work for this team because ha also has to dominate the ball, it would be the same as Cat and Francis. We won't be able to afford Payton. I posted it in Doc's thread, I'm thinking Larry Hughes.

I don't know what you're all smoking. How is Sam Cassell any different than Jason Terry? They both take a lot of shots and both of them aren't gonna make nba all defense team anytime soon.

Besides...we're moving SF to the SG position so he can feel more comfortable. Being a SG, he'd score more, and thus take more shots. Now let's see...we want both SF and Yao to be our leaders. Being leaders would mean they would take about 20 shots a piece. I don't see where the heck you guys get the idea that bringing in a score first point guard like Terry/Cassell would make this team better. Wouldn't Terry/Cassell demand a lot of shots too? Wait...isn't that the reason why we're TRADING AWAY MOBLEY????

Please...someone's gotta stop smoking in here and come to their senses!

I suggest bringing in a point guard that KNOWS HIS ROLE....meaning that he's not going to try his hardest to score 20ppg and jack up shots like Mobes. He'd just distribute the ball and be a tenacious defender and guard whoever is burning SF at the SG position. There aren't too many big guards that can handle playing the point and yet play great defense and still know his role these days.

Either that or a true point guard who is a true leader. Someone that runs the offense the way Dr Naismith envisioned. Mark Jackson is old...but I wouldn't mind seeing him here for a few years. Maybe Jamal Tinsley. Heck...but the ultimate is Andre Miller. We wouldn't expect Miller to be an allstar or lifesaver like the Clips did, so maybe he'd be a lot more free to display his real game.

I think the ideal guard that can be had is Gary Payton.
    This solves many problems.
    1) Pass first guard
    2) Defensive guard that can guard other SGs if need be
    3) Veteran influence on the team. Someone that has serious playoff and finals experience.

You get ALL that in Payton. And Payton is a FA. The only way to get him though is probably through a sign and trade with the Bucks as I don't see him taking the MCE. The only downside with Payton is you probably only have him for 3 or 4 more years. But I guess we would hope by them this team would have been taken to the next level.

I think Kenny Anderson is VERY available. He is a FA and can be had with the MCE. He is a pass first PG and is a veteran with playoff experience. The only downside is he is an average PG defensively. Anderson looks decent at PG if we can get Brand as well.

Alvin Williams would be interesting as we would get a legitamte combo guard, someone that can defend 2's instead of Francis. Williams also is a pretty decent shooter to stretch the defenses and is willing to take big shots. Williams would have to be acquired via trade.

Jamal Crawford is also another interesting candidate. He is on the trading block and would have to be acquired via trade. Crawford is not a pure PG and is more of a combo guard but has lots of athleticism! Can guard bigger 2's. Crawford clearly has the most upside/potential of all of them. But I wonder if this team would be better served with a more "veteran" influence at PG.

Payton, Anderson, Williams, Crawford are the guys I am looking at. Payton and Anderson are FAs while Williams and Crawford would have to be acquired in trades.

If I am the Rockets, if we were able to get someone like a Brand then getting Anderson via the MCE or a sign and trade would not be bad. If we were not able to get Brand then I would set my sights a lot higher and look for a sign and trade with the Bucks for Payton.

I don't think the Rockets can get BOTH Payton and Brand. But should try very hard to get one or the other.

    Anderson
    Cassell
    Crawford
    Hughes
    Kidd
    Payton
    Snow
    Terry
    Tinsley

    All right.

My favorites would be Jason Kidd or Gary Payton. But there is no way we can get them...unless the Bucks don't want Gary or Gary has to go to jail for assault or something.

So I would really like Sam Cassell. He can shoot. He yells a lot. Well...he can shoot. I would trade Mobley for him. But...uh...would rather not. Include some other guys in the trade.

If not him, then Snow. But he is always going to be with AI. Don't know why they would give him up. Working out nicely there.

Next would be Jason Williams or Jason Terry. Both are short...but both are good in their own ways. Jason Williams can pass...Terry can score...no defense. But they are still okay options. Maybe Terry won't accept being a role player though.

Next would be Tinsley, Hughes, and Crawford. They are all sort of young...and not that great..but would be all right...if we can get Ron Artest or Jerry Stackhouse or Donyell Marshall as well.

    Hmm...
