To be fair to the coaching staff... Hopkins hasn't been running good routes for most of the year. On film, the CB's often seem to be running the routes for him, and he gets very little separation (if any). This wasn't just about one play.... and there were questions about Hopkins separation ability and route running going into the draft.
Alex Smith keeps on winning... I don't know if he is AVG... He won with 49ers, He is winning w/ Chiefs... He knows how to play... He keeps his TOS to a minimum. We would have had a winning season right now if Schaub and Yates didn't TurnOver the ball every time they throw.
The common thread is a great defense. 49ers were 2nd in points allowed last year. Chiefs are 2nd in points allowed this year. Alex Smith is a game manager type QB. If you have a top notch defense, you can win with that. But as you saw in the Denver game, if they fall behind then it's hard for them to come back. Their offense just isn't very good. Against good teams, the defense HAS to come to play. They're not going to win many shootouts. The Texans do not have an elite defense. Put Alex Smith on the Texans and we're still a losing team. He might've only been good for 1, maybe 2, extra wins. Maybe none. We might not have even won the SD game if he'd been the QB. There's a reason why the 49ers never had a winning record with him at QB until they got a Top 3 defense that forced a bunch of turnovers.
None of this means he doesn't care about winning. He wants to win as much as any other owner. He just has the wrong philosophy on how to get there. He thinks a stable franchise will eventually turn into a consistent winner, like the Steelers. Of course, in today's NFL, that philosophy is totally wrong and all it does it get us to where we are now. But again....that's totally different than not caring about winning. Doing things the wrong way doesn't mean you don't care. It just means you're doing things the wrong way. That's all I'm saying.
Nope....I think he wants to make more money than the other owners, winning just a plus. As long as the stadium sells out I'm fairly certain Bob couldn't care less if he wins or not so long as he has "his guys" running the show. Bob appears to have agendas. Wish one of them was creating a winning football culture.
Yes, he would. Benson has owned the Saints since 1985. Ditka went 15-33 and got 3 years. Jim Haslett went 45-51 and got 7 years. Irsay has been part of the Colts front office since 1984. Ron Meyer got 4 full years and part of 2 others and only went 36-35. Ted Marchibroda in his 2nd stint went 30-34 and got 4 years. Just because those teams have had steady success over the past decade doesn't mean they don't have a history of giving coaches a chance to prove themselves. Unless you absolutely **** the bed in your first 2 years, you're going to get a third, if not a fourth. And as I said before, the team's record improved almost every year under Kubiak. We had our first non losing season. Our first winning season. Our first division titles and playoff appearances. Up until this year, 2010 was the only year he realistically could've been fired. He wasn't and we won the division the next two years. It's not like we've been a bottom feeder for the last 5 years and McNair has stubbornly put up with losing season after losing season.
The Texans are middle of the pack in average ticket price despite a pretty much guaranteed sold out stadium. So obviously Bob is all about the money. Can't you see? If the team isn't winning, it must be because the owner doesn't care about winning and if he doesn't care about winning, it must be because he cares about money, because losing teams make more money. Mel Brooks taught me that. That's why we're always up against the cap and why Kubiak is the highest paid coach in the division and why Wade is the highest paid DC in the league. Because Bob is cheap. You see, last year we went 12-4 so Bob obviously cared about winning and not money all that much. This year we're 2-8 so he's obviously decided that winning is overrated and he'd rather make more money. If we win the rest of our games, then Bob will care about money and winning equally. It's so simple. Can't you see?
But not surprising, there were people here who predicted Kubiak would look for any excuse to bench Keenum. It's not just his play calling that's predictable, every aspect of Kubiak's coaching habits and style have been exposed to the point that even fans can predict his next move.
Definitely not average: #31 in yards/attempt (a laughable 5.97) #28 in completion percentage #23 in QBR #22 in ypg #22 in TD #5 in sacks taken He has the lowest INT rate among full season starters because most of the defenders on the field are downfield...and he doesn't throw that direction. I'm not kidding. 78% of his attempts have been behind the line of scrimmage or no more than 10 yards out. He has a grand total of 5 completions this year beyond 20 yards. You can't even call him Captain Check Down when he doesn't look deep to begin with. It's no wonder why Dwayne Bowe can't get the ball this year - he's outrun Smith's range within the first few seconds after the snap.
Haha true.. But he doesn't beat his own team w/ the TurnOvers.. Thats Key for teams that have great defense. Look at Ravens when they won with Dilfer. Great Defense w/ A Game Manager. I'm not saying he is ELITE, but he is not AVG.. Maybe slightly above AVG. Wasn't Schaub a "Game Manager"
You know, Dilfer wasn't even that good of a game manager with the Ravens. He only started 8 games and had 11 INTs to 12 TDs. That's an INT for every 20.5 attempts. Compare that to Schaub this year who's thrown an INT for every 28.6 attempts. Yes, Dilfer was more of a pick machine than Schaub, though they may not have gone for TDs. But in the playoffs, Dilfer only threw one INT (while completing 48% of his passes). I think it's unfair to use Dilfer as the model for a "game manager". He was less than that. But it does go to show you how far a dominant defense can carry a team with a pedestrian offense.
Explain to me how this team has improved under Kubiak every year...!!! This team is one of the most inconsistent teams in the NFL, the team's record has been up and down every year, and the only reason we drastically improved in 2010 due to the acquisition of Wade. The guy should have been fired long time ago.
I Agree, but Kubiak had so many chances and we had to put up with his average coaching style and his bad clock management for a long time, He simply needs to be fired because he can't get it done.
