Dude, chill out. Rileydog ain't racist, alright? That's really sick how you trash him like that in your last paragraph, especially when he's Chinese himself. Are you just here to provoke people? What exactly did Nova do to warrant you calling him names? ****...I apologize on behalf of us dumb Americans, who don't know what terms are acceptable and which one's aren't. Even ethnic groups get confused by the usage of racial terms. I didn't know that we (blacks) didn't call ourselves negros until I was about 15.

You know, Middle Easterners don't get offended by any "racial" terms. In fact, they don't even see why racism is a big deal.

It's really pathetic how touchy people have become with racism. Chinaman means MAN from China....Why would anyone think it means anything else unless you told them...."Well, Chinaman is a racist term."

Why even bring it up? Apparently, RileyDog IS from China, and it didn't even catch his attention. Is this "Chinaman" thing only among people from Beijing or what?

 

Are Frenchman, Englishman and Irishman all derogatory terms? Just checking.

 

What about the term "Chinatown?" There is a big sign on 59 North by the George R. Brown (and the exit that many will take to get to the new arena) saying "Chinatown - next exit." I am not trying to be cute on this, just curious if it should be changed.

 

It's not nice to call someone Gandhi.

 

I'd think calling someone Gandhi is a good thing, since he's a heroic figure right?

I mean, I'd understand why it's bad to call someone Hitler, but Gandhi?

On another note, I don't understand what this sentence has to do with racism:

"Black players are generally better equipped physically to play basketball."

It's true. Black people are actually more athletic on average, and tend to have more competitive drive. Why would anyone be offended by this? Do Chinese people get offended when they're told they have small eyes?

 

Some probably do get offended...but it would be offending if someone walked by and made some gesture..or slanted eyes....or never mind.
