Definitely not true at 4 position. Blake Griffin and Zach Randolph are all better post players than Carmelo.
Blake: 53 possessions in 11 games 1.0 ppp (8th) Melo: 70 possessions in 10 games 0.86 ppp Melo's best when facing up the rim. He is quick enough for a blow by or can simply pull up if they play off of him. He does not have the strength or length posting down low vs 4's. That's not his game.
He had more success at 4 then 3 this year. Woodson played him almost exclusively at 4: http://www.82games.com/1314/13NYK10.HTM SF: 17% min -17 (net points) PF: 70% min +5 (net points)
Blake's a far better post player (and more skilled in general) than people give him credit for. You don't average 20+ ppg just catching lobs and put backs. He's got a nifty baseline spin move off his right shoulder and his jump hook isn't bad at all.
Granted he's off to a nice start, but do we really think Z-Bo is still an elite post-up option? Yes his skill level is certainly higher and his bag of tricks is deeper than Blake's, but with his knee injury and advancing age, it's apparent just from the eye test that Zach's not the same guy he was 2-3 years ago. At the end of the day production is more important to me than aesthetics, and at this stage in his career I'm not sure if Z-Bo's post-ups are markedly more productive than Blake's. That said, I haven't seen the numbers, so if there is still a huge gap in their efficiency I'll admit I'm wrong.
