Casspi has certainly made some mistakes with the ball. I was at the Clippers game when he pushed the ball up the court after a rebound, tried to pass it to Lin, but actually threw it directly to Chris Paul.

He will learn, though, and is overall a positive for this team. I'm not bothered by him making some mistakes being overly aggressive just like I am not bothered by Lin or Parsons doing the same, especially at an early stage this season. The team will make mistakes while trying to figure out how they'd play with each other.

Guarantee you he doesn't regret nabbing Harden. That's a gamble you take, 10 times out of 10.

Why are you taking individual opinions of separate posters and than applying it as a whole to a group. Does that sound fair to you?

Everything is a gamble....you pay someone max and injury or laziness happens. Compared to the likes, Harden is definitely worth his contract. Whether Harden is the man to lead Houston to anything that's still up in the air. The guy is not a complete player (at least not yet and doesn't seem like it will happen anytime soon), so if he's your best player you're not going to get far.

Sheesh- everyone who is so down on the Rox needs to just relax. We have shown that we can jump up on a team and really give them the business. But we're young and still learning how to do it on a consistent basis. And that only comes with practice and time. The more we play the better we get. The Heat didn't come together right away and we probably won't either. I'm ok with that. I'm happy if we get it together come playoff time and make it to the Conference finals. Right now, the only thing that matters about last night is that it was a learning experience and one L in a long season.

I remember the knock on the spurs of 03, 05, 07 was that they would run up the score and then relax and let the other team back in the game --giving up big leads. Better defense is the only answer and smart offense - going to the hole not chucking up James Hardhead three pointers.

Saw the game slipped away from the Rockets. Dwight did his all he could have done. The Rox figured they can just outscore the Mavs down the stretch. Then the TO's happened and guys missing critical shots, couldn't put a stop on the Mav's possession. And McFail....smh....we all know what the floor general Lin can do when he's behind the 8-ball the dude proved he can facilitate, make clutch shots, attack the rim, etc, run down the clock...basically what a PG does. Bev's a good guy, but he's a waste of body out there. All this point to the coaching staff, McHale most likely won't get fired midseason, after that, all bets are off. Excuse my grammar.

Didn't he only shoot 2 threes in the 4th quarter? One of them he made?

I thought James played fine last night, we just missed very makeable shots.

You are right that coaches probably told the wings to lead the break when opportunity presents itself, but not if when your lead guard is clearly open and ahead of you. You give the ball up and run as hard as you can up court to get open or pull a defender away from the ball, good things will happen more often than not. Casspi has tried this many times before and failed every time if I remember correctly, just like what I remember of Josh Howard.

If Parsons can do it I can do better! Right? I hope he learns, to pass the ball that is and not play out of his element.

Kevin Martin and Love will score 30 points.

I don't recall that Ellis slowed down when Bev was on him. Also, Calderon only had 13 points, not exactly a big night.

I'm a mavs fan and I think you guys have a better team on paper at least. If Ellis continues to improve it will be much closer. I don't like Dwight's lack of passing and I am not crazy about your pg play.

But the biggest advantage is Carlisle over mchale. We will see which teams defense improves as the year goes on. My actual be is on the mavs with Carlisle. You would think it would be the rockets with Dwight but he seems a head case. If he can have a good year shooting free throws then you can keep him in at the end of games, if not, well...

So this is what you're really arguing - the Mavericks are elite jumpshooters and the best thing to do is to either foul them or force them inside?

Your thesis then should be relatively easy to test - the Mavericks should regularly be able to put together massive jumpshot fests.

Here's a list of their results this year, with the PBP available for every game - can you find a single stretch that's comparable to the 4th period against the Rockets? (13 shots in a row, with 11 being jump shots from mid range or greater)

    http://espn.go.com/nba/team/schedule/_/name/dal/dallas-mavericks

If this happens "always" - surely it won't be difficult for you to find examples.

My latest reading on +/- stat is that it is totally meaningless if used as a independent variable, even using multiple regression. The author of this article stated that it only accounts for 7% of the variance of a player's pont production in future games, even using multiple regression. Sorry but I can't remember the author or more content. It may have been on thenbageek.com though.
