Not hip hop enough. That was shaq's original reply to Barry when Barry offered to teach him that under handed version.
This is full of crap. The issue I notice is when Dwight is more consitent he's usually releasing off his toes. When he's missing he's shooting flatfooted or they release isn't timed perfectly with elevating on his toes.
This is a good point. He does the right movements, but he doesn't do them seamlessly in one fluid motion. It's like he does it in parts. He sets and bends his knees... but then he stands straight up when he shoots without using his legs. He gets on his toes... but it's like he does it almost just for show most of the time. He doesn't get on his toes at the right time sometimes. Which is weird, because that is something that comes natural. He cocks his arms back to shoot... but then he doesn't follow through and just flicks his wrist instead to propel the ball. So it's like he's got a lot of individual parts moving, but they aren't working together like they should.
Um, maybe you didn't notice but Dwight made his free throws yesterday. And he did in another game earlier in the week. At least for a couple games it's feeling like Dwight is hitting more FT's than before....
Same thing i said earlier in the season.... mechanics are broken. It's like he has to move every part consciously because its not just automatically happening fro him in a sequence. I was just giving the possible reasons. Clearly he can extend it when he wants, so that's not really it. So it's likely it feels weird or unstable to him. I do agree he should line up differently and not with both feet. Shooting is a unilateral movement and one should position himself that way, much like a QB does to throw. However, the problem i think Dwight has is with stability from leg to leg, so he probably feels unstable that way and may be why he doesn't do it. (The trainers said his hamstring and glute function was screwy)
He doesn't know what to do. His form is awful! Arm parallel to the ground, no follow through, not guiding the ball. It's just a chuck. The mental side is one aspect that he needs to figure out on his own but his form and lack of follow through is the reason there is a huge variation on his shot. He needs to look at LaMarcus Aldridge and mirror that form. Keep the ball high so the shooting motion is just the full extension of the arm and follow through. That reduces the variation in your shot and trying to manage hoisting it up. Just extend to follow through position and make sure it rolls off your fingers and not off your palm. As tall as he is he doesn't need to muscle the ball in the basket. Same applies to his jumpshot. Same motion and use your legs for distance. Keep release the same.
