I am religiously opposed to ever rooting for, or thinking positively of, StocktonMalone. However, I am rooting for both to return to Utah. This is because: 1 neither should ever play anywhere else 2 neither should ever play without the other 3 by both re-signing in SLC then MillerToBrand cannot occur to pain us for next decade.
Utah needs to move on. If they haven't won a ring with Stockton and Malone by now, it's not going to happen. The Jazz are so outmatched by the Kings, and they know it. Stockton will retire after this season, and Malone will sign with another team to go after the all time scoring record, and we can finally, once and for all, rejoice at the END of the Stockton and Malone era...
they are too old... only way malone and stockton can be effective if is Utah resigns them for very little money and brings in lots of youth... and malone and stockton can teach them the dirty tricks of their trade
Stockton, Malone are old and creeky (and still very good) and 'control' a large % of Jazz $. Miller and Brand have been linked to Utah and I would rather Jazz $ be available when players who would not play in SLC are available. So, geezers, keep on returning to Jazzland USA!
I've come to realize that as long as Sloan is the head coach of the Utah Jazz they will always make the playoffs even if Malone and Stockton bounce. He will bring in some other players that have potential and can play better then they are right now i.e Matt Harpring and make them look like superstars. Bottom line is Jerry Sloan is a damn good coach. Shandon, Eisley, Russel and Marshall all played very well in Utah now all of them have struggled on other teams and or currently still do with exception to Marshall cause he's always been solid.
I don't think age should play any part in whether they are resigned or not. Their skill has obviously not declined. Stockton seems perhaps more energetic than he did earlier in his career. Malone has refined his outside game and knows when to catch his opponent off guard by taking the ball down low. The only reason I think the Jazz should not resign them is if they feel that their skill (not declined skill) is not good enough to compete for a title. It seems like their best chance was before the West became so talent-packed but now that it has, there is simply not enough talent on the Jazz other than Malone and Stockton.
and let's not allow their talent to be replenished. Rox need someone to fall out of play offs, and GS, Sea, even Mem and Den are looming. Then, wither be the Clips?
