So guys, any advice on how to obtain one for the folks who didn't pre-order?? Which store to hit up and this is going to be a midnight launch, correct which is tonight?
The Microsoft store in the Galleria is sure to have a few extras...I'd call them and check on the status.
I liked this review by Anand: http://anandtech.com/show/7528/the-xbox-one-mini-review-hardware-analysis Actually more of a mini-review (yes, 6 pages is a mini-review), and a comparison of the XBO to the 360 and PS4. More tech talk in this one than other reviews, including power consumption numbers, talk of reserved system resources, eSRAM, AA, etc. edit: I actually passed over the web browser tests initially, but wow. PS4 browser seems substantially faster, and I think it still kind of sucks. Maybe not the best benchmarks, but a bit surprised by that.
Yup, I went through the same issues you did and was able to preorder one too. The only problem I had was that my shipping estimate was Nov 26. Spoke with a CS rep and she upgraded my shipping to overnight so I would get it this Friday. Too bad I have zero interest in owning an inferior system. Purchased this for my buddy in case I can't help her get one Thursday night for her bf's (my coworker) bday, which is Nov 22.
Xbox seems to be getting pretty decent reviews, surprising considering how much of a negative people were saying the kinect bundled in was going to be.
I think most of the complaints about the Kinect being included was that it wouldn't really offer anything substantial (at least for gaming), except for increasing the price tag. Not a bad option, but some would have preferred a cheaper console (or a more powerful One) without Kinect. Maybe an analogy could be drawn to the PS3 with its Blu-ray. Blu-ray was great to have (and made the hardware "better" for reviews), but for a lot of people, they might have preferred a cheaper/more powerful system that didn't offer it. It does look like they did a great job of incorporating Kinect into the UI though (when it works). I think most people could probably see some benefit to the occasional voice command.
What kind of threw me was I was trying to "place my order" with the final click and the screen originally said two-day shipping would arrive on Nov. 22. So, I click the button to place my order. The same checkout page reloads implying the order didn't go through and then it says I need one-day shipping for it to arrive on Nov. 22. So, I'm like WTF as it just said two-day shipping to arrive on Nov. 22 and not one-day shipping? I'm checking my email to make sure the previous order didn't go through somehow. So, then I clicked the button to place the order again with one-day shipping selected and it went through. I was thinking I was going to get stuck with a huge shipping fee for one-day shipping but that didn't seem to be the case. I'm still kind of confused about what happened. LOL
Look at that awesome 1080p/60 FPS performance in Forza: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-next-gen-now-forza-motorsport-5 <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/cFGMX0RWzwM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Putting some of these other devs to shame IMO. I don't think I even saw it hit 59FPS during the race. Probably could use some AA, but seems like Turn10 prioritized a stable framerate.
If you guys planning on showing up to the Gamestop Westheimer/hwy 6/Sugarland/Rosenberg U.S 59 locations, we gonna be fighting cause those are my spots!!!!!
Anyone have any suggestions on the best way to cool the Xbox One if you put in an entertainment cabinet? I'm hoping that won't be a huge issue but I tend to think it will be without good ventilation. Can you use a laptop cooler or something? Obviously, it would have to be USB so I could plug it in to the console.
Looks like Forza is getting some great reviews so far, I already picked up NBA 2K14 and am going to go trade in my 360 copies of Madden,FIFA, and Ghosts tomorrow.
Hey RC Cola (or anyone), Do you know if, when I route my satellite signal through Xbox one via HDMI, will it pass-thru the 3D signal for 3D programming? That's going to be a bummer if it won't...even though there aren't many DirecTV 3D channels. There is on 3D PPV channel I plan on watching some 3D content in. I would think if it is 4k capable...then it would pass 3d. I know my a/v receiver won't pass-thru 3D if I route HDMI through it. I know both new consoles, from what I've read, will not support 3D Blu Ray playback initially. I guess we have to wait for down the road for a software update.
I'm not actually sure. I haven't really messed with 3D content, but I think passing through 3D signals requires HDMI 1.4. Does your receiver support the 1.4 spec? I believe the XBO supports 1.4, so if your receiver doesn't support it, maybe that's why (and maybe why XBO would work). However, if the receiver does support HDMI 1.4, and still doesn't pass-thru 3D signals, the XBO might have the same issue. I don't recall this question coming up before, so it might be something we find out on launch day. I would think it would work, but I'm not sure what weird issues there could be with signal pass-thru.
Not totally related, but I'll toss it out there... Just got an email from Best Buy saying that they'll give a minimum of $100 store credit for any working 360 or PS3. There are a few other electronics that qualify as well. Link - Info is on the right side of the page. Offer ends 11/23/13. Might be a good deal for anyone looking to pick up the new Xbox and knock down the price a bit. Edit: Is this really a good deal? Should I post it in the Hot Deals & Classifieds as well?
My a/v receiver is older. They normally make it a point to advertise it as 3d capable and mine does not. I know it has to be an older HDMI spec, then. If what you are saying is accurate, then it sounds promising that XBO might pass the 3d signal if I pass my DirecTV signal through it. I'll work it out when I get it I guess and let you know if it works.
There are/will be arcade games. But don't think the ones you have from the 360 will necessarily carry over. I know some PS3 games do, and maybe some 360 games do too, but I think in general, you'll have to re-buy games on XBO (assuming they're even available for the platform...which most likely won't be).
