I honestly don't see a very high ceiling for him unfort. If a deal for LMA included Asik/Parsons I'd have to seriously consider it.

Actually, I took a closer look at the contract. Parson's situation is even wierder.

    There's a good writeup here...

    http://rockets.clutchfans.net/3681/chandler-parsons-contract-take-two/

In a nutshell, because year 4 is a team option, it creates a bizarre situation where they either have to take the option and let him go UFA at the end of year 4, or they have to decline the option and completely waive him, or renegotiate his contract.

So, Parsons wierd situation (2nd round drafted, guaranteed money AND 4th year team option) puts the Rockets in a weird place.

So Parsons would be a RFA in 2014, if we want him to go RFA, or a UFA in 2015, or declined and waived (guaranteed money), or renegotiated and extended.

    Messy.

Umm, not sure if you checked your own math here. That's 3 years of service by Parsons, which makes him eligible for restricted FA.

Also the Rockets are NOT going to lose Parsons under any circumstances in UFA anyway in 2015, should they pick up his option. Not unless Parsons prefer making the same amount of money but play in Sacramento instead of with Howard, Harden, and potentially Love or LMA.

Thanks, but already corrected that in the above posts.

in a practical sense, the 4th year option is what allows him to be made a RFA, if it was simply unguaranteed, he'd need to get waived to decline the 4th year (and picked up off the waiver wires 3 seconds later by the worst team in the nba)

I believe Chandler is going to improve and will deserve whatever he gets. He is not a system player at all but rather an off the ball glue guy that makes the spacing on the court so good. Every team can use this type of player as long as they understand that he's not the type you give the ball to and ask him to create. That is a part of his game that he's trying to work on (even though he is not good at it as of this moment) specifically because he wants to be a star and not just a glue guy. I like that kind of fire in a guy as long as he doesn't hurt his team while trying to expand his game. He understands basketball well so I'm sure he'll figure it out b

You have got to make him unrestricted.

We have enough money for one more stud, and Parsons isn't that guy.

Parsons defense is darn near worst than Harden's and Lin's and he gives up just as many points as he scores. I don't see Morey giving Parsons a contract. He's not better than what San Antonio, Golden State, OKC, Miami, Indiana, Chicago, and several others have at the 3 position. He's the most replaceable guy on this team...

Parsons has an unquantifiable added value because he seems to be able to become anyone's best friend. Just look at the Dwight situation. I have no worries about the Rockets locker room as long as Parsons is there. But to be honest I have no idea how to value that contribution.

If his 3pt shooting doesn't pick up, I would just trade him.

Ship Parsons and Asik for the BPA. Casspi is a better player.

First- Anyone bashing Parsons for whatever reason is probably new to the Rockets this year. I agree he has looked a bit off this year, and his defense is the #1 casualty, but he's definitely going to be a Rocket during his next contract. There is very little doubt about that, and he's going to be a very good player in this league for a long, long time.

Secondly- His contract situation. Not really that big of a deal IMO.

From what it looks like, if the Rockets are able to bring in the ideal player in this Asik trade, and that player has a contract past the Summer of 2015, you lock Parsons up by allowing him to go in RFA next Summer. You accept that this is the core group you are running with, and you go from there. You wont have free agency money most likely in 2015 so your not a player anyways. Might as well get a discount on Parsons and lock him up for the foreseeable future.

If for some reason the Rockets either have to take back draft picks, short term spare parts, or take back a player on a contract that ends in the Summer of 2015, you allow Parsons to become an Un-Restricted free agent in 2015.

This allows the team the ultimate freedom in the Summer of 2015 to go after a big name free agent, and still hold onto Parsons because his cap hold is so small. Depending on where the Salary cap is in 2015 the Rockets could have somewhere estimated between 15 and 18 million to spend on a key free agent or free agents.

The Summer of 2015 is also the Summer before Howards last guaranteed year with the Rockets. If he's unhappy with the results up to that point, it might be a good idea to make a splash in free agency that Summer. Also, dont doubt the Power of his ties around the league. Im sure alot of big name players around the league would love to have that salary slot and play alongside Howard, Harden, and Parsons.

Like how he handled omer asik by going public and trashing him to the media? He is full of himself. He's worth 6-8 million. Nothing more. His position is not hard to fill.

I think it all depends on how Parsons fits into the role for us to contend a championship.

Honestly, we needed a defensive specialist and we need a dead-eye spot up 3pt shooter. This sort of reminds me of Shane Battier. Can Parsons be that personf or us?
