Just got SBC Yahoo DSL. On certain pages: travelocity, espn, netscape, astros.com, etc., the pages are corrupt and display images with a red "X" through them. On other pages it works fine and I have no problems. I have already downloaded Internet Explorer 6 with the service pak and am still having problems. Restarted the computer several times too..... Damn I hate my computer!!!
Drew, Go to Internet Options and then click the Advanced tab. See if the "Show Pictures" box is checked.
Try deleted temp files and cookies, that may help. If not, go through the Add/Remove programs, click on IE6 then Add/Remove and try to do a repair on IE, that may work.
Do you have a program that blocks third party advertisements? Like Zone Alarm Pro's Privacy manager? If you do, try turning down the settings or just to off. I still think it is your ISP/connection though.
Drew, My next suggestion would be to go to the security tab in Internet options and restore all the security defaults (i.e. make sure they arent set high, this can sometimes cause images not to load).
If so, is there anything I can do? I talked to SBC tech support for about 30 minutes and there was nothing they could do......
Have you double checked all connection settings? Be sure to double check everything. Also, try disconnecting the DSL line for a few minutes or so.
Also, since you use DSL, download mozilla, www.mozilla.org and check to see if it isn't just IE 6. Also what is your OS?
Mozilla works like a champ! No problems with any of the previous sites. Does this mean its a IE 6 issue??
A lot of times images are hosted on a different site than the website itself. So for some reason your system may not be reading the links.
Okay it is an ie6 problem. I want you to downgrade to ie5 or 5.5 and check if it works again. If it does reinstall ie6sp1 and it should work. Also, do you have 98 or 98se? Second Edition is a lot better. I am sure you have done this, but check winupdate if you haven't. It should be under ie6's tools then windowsupdate option
I've ran into this problem a few times at work from users. IE6 doesn't seem to be very compatible with win98 or below. Does it produce javascript errors besides those empty images right? Like CndDrr said, uninstalling IE 6 and installing IE 5+ should do the trick. Upgrading your OS will also work too.
