I'm guessing you're neither Chinese nor Taiwanese, right? Not to be rude, but just to enlighten: the "Taiwanese" (whenever you see them in the paper, etc. etc) are in fact ethnic Chinese (for the most part). So when you hear about "Taiwan" and "China" fighting it's not an ethnic hostility such as Jews vs. Arabs... The Taiwanese who "oppose" China are in fact opposing Communist China as a regime, but, this should be underscored: they (the Taiwainese who seek to be independent of Beijing) are of the same ethnicity as the Chinese who are citizens of Communist China.... It's a political conflict, not an ethnic one (since they are both ethnic Chinese) If you bring in stuff like 2% of the population that are "aborigines" you are missing the point...

Taiwanese are mainly of han Chinese, there are aborigines and they are called "yuan zhu min". (Or GAO Shan zu" it you wanna get technical) Lin is han Chinese and his parents are from Taiwan. It's that simple.
