To be fair, the Texans picked up 9 first downs in 5 possession with Schaub as QB. They only picked up 4 in 11 possessions with Keenum.

Not that Schaub necessarily played all that well but we did move the ball more consistently with Schaub at QB. We had as many yards in his 5 possessions as we did in Case's 11.

I think it's because Case looks to throw the ball downfield first and foremost. He'll make bigger plays. Matt looks more for short and intermediate throws. They won't result in big plays, but they're easier/higher percentage throws that are more likely to be completed and move the chains.

If we can get Case to be more judicious with his downfield throws while learning to take what the defense gives in the intermediate passing game, we can have the best of both worlds. I saw him throw incomplete downfield multiple times when he had open receivers on shorter routes. He passed up the almost certain 7 yard gain going for a 30 yard gain into coverage.

Can't believe people are trying to make a Case for schaub. It's hilarious.

there should be no reason for schaub to be in. what is the point of trying to "salvage" a 2-7 season (now 2-8)? let Case learn and gain experience. Of course the only reason, is Kubiak is feeling that hot seat and wanted to win the game, but in doing that, I think he just made his seat hotter.

This is one of frequent tools of the Schaub apologists, yardage. The Texans always rack up yardage but it's never in line with the amount of points you would typically score with that yardage. This is because they will let Schaub dink and dunk his way around the field, racking up yardage, but ultimately not points. We've seen this for years now. This is why Andre always has tons of yardage but few touchdowns.

To be fair, neither of them converted on a single 3rd down in the second half. 1st downs are great to get on 1st or 2nd down, but the lack of 3rd down conversions is the reason why the offense is stalling out. So by that measure, they played equally in my eyes during the 2nd half.

What's weird is that the Texans style absolutely NEED a great kicker. Over the years the Texans probably had their drives stalled in the no man's land of 30~40 yard more than most teams. And we've had so many punts and missed FGs in that range.

This has been coming since the big brains decided to let Brisiel and Winston go.

HORRIBLE decision which crippled the entire offense from that point forward.

Don't leave out Dreessen. Seriously. You think he wouldn't have helped hide Newton on the right side?

This entire regime has got to go.

I have been firm on not firing Kubiak during the season, but today completely changed that. WTF was he thinking? I almost felt like it was a big FU to everyone. Yeah this is my guy and we are going down together. Loyal to a fault. Set in his ways to a fault.

I can't take anymore of this regime. At least fire Kubiak and Marciano now. "Evaluate" everyone else later.

Kubiak put his own interest ahead of the teams when he put Schaub in. Kubiak knows that Schaub is done, and he knows that Keenum needs experience and also to show if he can be "the guy" next season. By benching Keenum, you hurt his confidence and blow an opportunity to properly evaluate him. Is McNair so stupid he can't see what just happened?

Yes, Yes he is! After last year it was painfully obvious Kubiak was not the guy and I had no expectations for this season but Bob somehow thought it would get better. Really Bob? Now he's draggin his feet in not firing him which will affect next year. I hope he fools all of us and has been shopping for some great football minds but i seriously doubt it.

    Can you blame him though?

Putting aside the question of whether Schaub really gave us a better chance to win than Keenum, can you blame a coach on the hot seat for prioritizing trying to win over trying to develop a young, inexperienced QB?

I don't. If he loses and gets fired, what does he care about preparing Keenum for next season?

But there now exists a conflict between the goals of the coach (winning, trying to save his job) and the franchise (planning for the future). If McNair knows that Schaub is gone after this year. If he thinks there's a chance Case could be our full time starter next year, then he needs to let Kubiak go now. Because Kubiak's interests are no longer aligned with the Texans' interests. I don't blame him for that, it's just a product of the position he's in.
