I never said he wasn't a good coach; he clearly is.

But I'm pretty sure he's known for being "old school" to a fault and resistant to the influence of analytics. He also seems like he either wants a GM to leave his team alone or for himself to have a heavy hand in personnel moves. And for those reasons, he wouldn't do well here. See: Rick Adelman

he will not be fired...maybe but I think he will go after 1 or 2 years without being in the Western Conference
If he can at least get there, then he'll have my respect but I would still want another coach for the championship run.

Lin needs to take a quicker shot when he jumps up in the air. I know he wants a good shot to go in but if he has a quicker shot he would get 2-3 less TO per game.

I guess McHale doesn't want to get fired.

    1. He took Howard out when the Knicks are using hack-a-Howard.
    2. He fouled when we're up by 3 with 5 sec left.

    Good job.
The next improvement you need is to draw up better play.

He must have been reading up on ClutchFans.....he actually made some very good calculated decisions tonight. Houston would have been up by two more games if he made the same decisions with the Lakers and Sixers games.

I am worried that McHale is playing too many minutes for too few players. Harden and Bev already have had injuries. And now Smith is injured and Asik is out. McHale is going to have to dig a little deeper into our roster.

    Woj(after the Lakers/Raptors games):

Off to a bad start in Houston?

Not off to a bad start but embarrassing loss(Lakers game). Dwight played poorly in that game. They hung on against Toronto. Harden is injured. He's not himself. The question is where is the leadership? Can McHale hold that group together in tough times? Do they have that guy in the locker room? James Harden and Dwight are not guys, maybe Harden grows into it, but where the leadership comes from in that group is really gonna be the question. It's gotta come from Dwight in a lot of ways. He can't point the finger or blame anyone if it's not going right. I don't think he's doing that. Right now, I think it's fine. Dwight knows people are watching him closely and he just doesn't have the excuses. He picked this situation. It's on him now.

A great post I read on RealGm:

The strategy to beat HOU is very simple: Make some tough long 2s early. There's the difference between Thibodeau and McHale. When the other team makes some tough long 2s early, Thibodeau is like "Good job, guys, keep this up. That's exactly the kind of shots we want them to shoot." McHale blows a gasket "Why are you letting them make long 2s? OMFG they can make long 2s! That means they are going to make long 2s all game!" then overcompensates with adjustments to give up layups and 3s instead for the rest of the game.
