As a Heat fan that had to endure Hack-a-Shaq, I know dem feels. Still don't think they should change the rules.
I really wanted the Rockets and Clippers to make a mockery of the NBA by doing Hack-a-Dwight and Hack-a-Jordan for a whole quarter. It'd take hours. And be quite the highlight.
OP's and several other solutions are way too complex. Intentional fouling should incur a penalty of 2 free throws and possession ALL GAME. No matter the situation.
Let dwight inbound the ball, the give the ball back to dwight and all 4 other rocket players make a circle around dwight by holding hands. So the other team can only foul somebody else in ordet to reach dwight.
This. There should be no excuse for not hitting your fts at an acceptable rate, it's part of the game. The main reason Hack-an-X is prevalent is because the big men don't put in the work anymore on their fts, anybody can do them esp if you go underhanded. To be quite honest Hack-an-X is a do-or-die strategy, when the big man is able to break it (like when Omer did it last year and Dwight against the Nuggs), it pretty much kills the opponent because you have 2 sure pts every possession.
If you commit a non-shooting foul when over the penalty, the opposing team gets to choose who takes the free throws. Simple, consistent, and utterly destroys hack-a-player. The other advantage is that shooting fouls are still the same. So guys who can't make FT's still get punished for it.
I think after a set number of fouls (9..10), then you get 3 free throws. 2 free throws and the ball back is completely jacked, you shouldn't be given a small gift like Xbox controller and then someone gives you a full on Xbox. The easiest solution though....make the freethrows. The Hack-a-whoever is actually beneficial to the team getting fouled and not only that, it could get the fouling team out of rhythm. Just try your hardest to make the free throws.
or you can give the ball to dwight before he gets hacked and let him attempt a three. We might occasionally get 4 point plays lol
People who are saying "make the free throws" are missing the point of my thread. It's not just about basketball strategy - this is about the fan experience and watchability (if that's a word) of the game. Asik "made the free throws" against OKC and Dwight "made the free throws" today against the Nuggets. However, teams in the future are still going to use that strategy. While it didn't pay off today for the Nuggets, the consistent loser in this situation regardless of how Dwight does at the line are the CUSTOMERS.
you know the rule that you can't hack a player without the ball under 2 minutes or that team can choose any player to shoot 1 ft and they keep the ball. that should be the rule the whole game. no more hacking. its not a good strategy, and its boring as hell to watch... and it never works! get rid of it all together.
Has anyone ever tried having your guards block for your center as he runs down the court? Like they would surround him so they would have to be fouled first? As you mock this idea, please explain its flaws.
