Mchale left in June 2009 and Flynn was drafted days later.

This discussion is not very meaningful when coming off the bench, Jeremy is averaging ~34 minutes to Pat Bev's 29 and is consistently closing games.

You're hoping that someone on the team plays bad so they get reduced minutes?

Uh okay -- you must be the most awesome Rocket Fan ever

    NOT!

You missed the second "D". Consistency is important as Jeremy Lin now knows.

Did anyone notice that both Point Guards played pretty well against the Nuggets?

    27 points, 9 assists, 9 rebounds, > 50% FG%.

Good game today from the PG position.

*wait, is this post not controversial enough for this thread? Need a more controversial post?*

Cut it out y'all!! Good game, although our competition was terrible. Great to see parsons back, I love what Bev does out there and it's definitely good to see Dwight hit his free throws. Our game is slowly coming back and we're not even 50% of our potential in my opinion. Love how Harden didn't force too much out there and that has been the number one difference out there recently even more than the TT being trashed. Let's keep it going!!

Lin does not play well. Gets demoted to bench. Lin plays well. Still on bench.

Fans in Houston really don't know how to appreciate Jeremy Lin as a player.

The benching thing was pre-determined before the start of the season, while Jeremy had done nothing wrong to lose his starting job. Had Jeremy whined, mourned, requested to get traded and didn't play hard, you have Asik situation 2.0 here and Rox would have 40 Million dollar sitting on the bench and scrambling to get them traded. Jeremy even had more reason to pull an Aski because Bev is a lesser player.

Instead Jeremy just sucked it up and accepted the role Rox give to him, fairly or not, and rocked it. That just showed his characters right there.

Everyone appreciates Jeremy Lin, but there is no reason to distort information to antagonize the team.

    1) "Benching" was not pre-determined. Why would McHale rotate starters if it was?

    2) Lin is playing 34 minutes a game, which is the 4th most in the Rockets roster. Obviously, McHale did have 6th man in mind.

It's also not comparable to Asik's situation, who is only playing 21 minutes. Players may complain about playing time when they are on the bench, but Jeremy Lin was not "benched", he has an important designated role for this team, and he is getting a large amount of minutes.

    3) You basically implied that Asik is just as good as Howard, because you said Lin had more reason to be upset coming off the bench than Asik because he is behind a player he is better than.

Seriously, any real Rockets fan would be grateful that Lin is not making a big deal out of playing 34 minutes off the bench as opposed to 34 minutes as a starter, but there is no need to antagonize this team.

    1) Maybe to save face? THey were also on the asia trip. Lin said he wasn't surprised by the decision so that would lead us to believe that he knew it was coming from a while. Nobody will know for sure the when the 6th man thing was decided but the fact that McHale felt the need to rotate starters showed that he was strongly considering making a switch.
2)He is playing that many minutes because he is playing well & bev has been as inconsistent as Lin was last year. If he was playing poorly he wouldn't be getting that much time.
    3) How do we know that Lin isn't making a big deal about it? Remember when we all said "Asik is a team player" "just wants to win" "won't make a big deal about it" only to find out that Omer has been asking for a trade repeatedly for several weeks now? And not Asik isn't just as good as Howard but the drop off from Howard to Asik is a lot smaller than the drop off from Lin to Bev.

    Food for thought.

Exactly, nobody knows when the 6th man was decided so why are we assuming that McHale wanted to use Lin as a 6th man from the start?

McHale doesn't care about saving face. In fact, what does he have to be embarrassed about? He is the greatest 6th man of all time, do you really think he considers the 6th man a lesser role, such that he has to "save face" before designating Lin with that role? That's ridiculous.

Of course he wouldn't be getting as many minutes if he was playing poorly. That's logical and what every coach should do.

We don't, but that's like saying "how do we know Patrick Beverley doesn't want to murder Lin in his sleep?". Lin said he is fine with it, and there has been no report that Lin wants to be traded or is upset (unlike Asik who requested a trade immediately after the Dwight Howard acquisition).

Actually, I think most rockets fans would agree moving Lin to the bench was a good move - he still gets 30+ minutes and he's playing better than ever...starting Asik however...
