Yes, this is somewhat of a spin-off of the "Is Andy Kaufman still Alive" thread, that thread got me to reminisce about him and wishing he were still alive, also about other great comedians who died an early death.

Question: If you could bring back one comedian of the following list (at the age of death), which would you bring back? Feel free to give your opinion and participate in the poll...;)
    1. John Belushi
    2. Andy Kaufman
    3. John Candy
    4. Chris Farley

For me I would choose either Belushi or Farley, I think that they were both made from the same mold and could of become even greater stars/comedians!

(P.S) There are many others that are not on the poll/list...

He didn't die at an early age SwoLy, but here's a secret, I was actually going to use Cantinflas for the pic,
but I decide not to because many on this board have no clue who he is...:(

Bring Belushi or Farley back and they probably don't last for the same reasons they went out the first time. I'm guessing Kaufmann or Candy would have better longevity second time around.

    That said.... Belushi.

Belushi; just because all modern comedic acting was defined by five guys on the same two shows, and he deserved the same place in movie history that they had. I still think Ghostbusters would have been worse not having to replace him with Murray, unless they could still keep Eddie Murphy.

Also, Farley had great charisma; but I think Candy and others might have had more depth or range.

Had to go check out the wikipedia page on ghostbusters. I had no idea.
What a different movie that would have been with those actors.

But, I'd choose E) Mitch Hedberg

I almost chose R) Eddie Murphy's comedic career

Of the ones listed, Candy was by far the best actor.
Belushi had the best talent, but I got to go with Candy.

Andy Kaufman, by a mile, he was about 30 years ahead of his time, he took comedy, acting, and reality television, and merged it into something never seen before, at least not like he was doing it.

Belushi was overrated, Farley isn't worth considering in this discussion, and Candy could have been an earlier version of John Goodman, but he would have had to lose some weight, a lot of weight. Goodman's weight gives him a darker personality, while Candy's weight was the exact opposite, making him look childlike.

Andy Kaufman, hands down. During his time, his comedy was "meta-comedy". In the full-swing of 21st century post-modernism, his comedy would just be good comedy. His schtick wouldn't have become tiresome or irrelevant, because that's how far ahead of everyone's sensibility he was. Hell, just watching some of his stuff to this day is mind-bending.

You just never knew where it started and where it ended with Kaufman. His whole act was like one big, convoluted performance art piece. Whether he went on stage with an accent, or as Tony Clifton, everything he did had an over-arching strategy to it that he master-minded completely and totally. He wasn't just a comedian, IMO, he was a comedy engineer.

Wow! The poll is a LOT closer than I anticipated! I like how many of you are very adamant about how your guy is better than all the rest!
It's a testament to these guys that after being dead for so long they still have diehard fans! ;)

Your right, he's another great comedian/actor that died in his prime. I dropped the ball on him, but that's why I said there are others, I'm sure that I'm omitting somebody else as we'll. Regardless thanks for bringing him to the table!

Ok, it appears this thread has come to a halt, so I'm going to call it with 60 votes on the poll.
It appears that CF's has spoken, and there is a major CANDY CRUSH :)grin:) on this board!

The reigning "Wish he was alive" dead comedian is....Mr. John Candy!
