The way I see it, Howard is nothing more than a rich man's Ben Wallace

Although Howard is stronger and more athletic.

Ben Wallace, at his prime, was the heart and soul of that Pistons' defense. However, he knew his limit. He never demanded touches on offense end. He focused on cleaning glasses and second chance points.

The problem of Howard is he thinks he is some kind of super star on offense and demands touches in the post. The Rox coaches and management can't ignore him because he is the "best" center in the league and the "super star". However, the truth is his post move are pathetically bad and extremely raw even after 10 years in NBA. Like Ben Wallace, he has no effective post moves,;like Ben Wallace, he has no range; and he can't shoot free throw, again like Ben Wallace.

So in close game situation like tonight, Rox ended up playing 4 on 5 on offense and can't give the ball to him.

Even worse, maybe he is lazy or whatever reason, I see he seldom come out playing PnR. And when he comes out, he doesn't set good pick.

Man, Rox is paying him 21 mil a year for next 4 years. Can't imagine what is like when his athleticism goes down in a few years.

Howard and His Post Up Game

Is it me or does Howard have a very mediocre post up game? I would say 90% of the time, he either gets blocked, gets the ball stripped, or just throws it off the backboard and misses the rim completely. I don't know what the Dream taught him but it's not coming to fruition these past games.

Is this really a viable option down the stretch? I mean, he's no Yao, but as Shaq said during half-time, why is he posting up that far-out on the block? He should be getting position closer to the basket and receiving the ball within arms reach of the basket and just taking it up strong like how Shaq does. He has the power and jumping ability to do so, but opts to post up with some robotic looking posts moves with low succession rate.

What do you guys think? Should Howard continue to get the ball on the block like he's been doing or should he start getting better position deeper in the paint?

Nothing. It's just that he asks for touches in the post when he doesn't deserve them.

He's more like a poor man's Wallace. Wallace knew his role and played it perfectly. Dwight thinks he's Hakeem.

It's such a pity that for someone so gifted athletically he has never developed any post moves despite having been in the league for so long. You have to wonder what he has been doing in the offseason for the past 10 years. Now it's too late. His handles are very bad and he can't post with them.

He needs to post up closer to the rim but at the same time he needs to get better treatment from the refs because Shaq got away with things that Dwight just can't get away with in today's nba game.

he's just not very good in the post.

he easily gets pushed out the paint. Charles said it best, a good post player picks a spot and NOBODY makes him move from that spot.

once e gets the ball in the post he just looks uncomfortable. no fluidity. just stiff. like he's counting the steps in his head.

i;m starting to think he'll never be a good post player. mentally he is fragile and doesn't seem to have that work ethic to really get better.

I'm with you on this. He is a superstar wannabe who can't be anything close to solid on offense.
His act, behavior and body language as he is some sort of shaq, but is nothing but a mediocore player.

We are not getting him involved or he is not trying to involved. Howard low post play is low percentage play and yet that's where he gets most touches. Where is the PnR, we had that in the first couple games. No lobs in the past few games either. Tonight, they weren't even looking for him and this is the game he supposed to eat people alive inside since Knicks missing Chandler. Instead, he became a liability defending the three. I put this on the coach.

    (a) Ben Wallace was earning $15million per season. OR - what he does is very very important in the game called basketball.

    (b) Dwight's career average from the field is 57.7%. He has never shot below 52%, and has twice shot over 60% for a season. That's impressive when you're scoring 18+ PPG and drawing serious attention in the post.

    (c) Post scoring is essential in basketball to open up the court for shooters and slashers.

    (d) Post scorers tend to get fouled more often, putting teams in the penalty, and exposing them to high FT% shooting teammates who are adept at drawing fouls.

I can't see why Dwight isn't worth every cent of his $20mill. It's a bargain. As is Harden at $14mill.

Someone needs to force him buy into PnR which is what he's really good at.

Actually, he got plenty of touches tonight. I think he made 1 out of 10 attempts at the post up. He even got blocked by Bargnani twice and stripped several times.
