Oh yeah, from what I could tell, it definitely seems in line with the "usual" launch failure rate. Even 2%-3% is kind of high, especially since we're not talking about stuck pixels or anything like that. I was under the impression that electronic devices like this were usually under 1% (not necessarily cutting edge tech, but just electronics in general...though I get the impression this number might be increasing over time). I don't think we ever got "official" numbers about the 360 failure rate (due to RRoD). I think I saw a 30% figure at some point, but who knows how accurate that was. Keep in mind this is including systems that might fail over time, rather than systems that break down within 24-48 hours (or sooner).
I think all this talk about failing PS4s is way overplayed...I dont think we will be seeing failure rates above 2-3%, which would actually be a very successful launch. Problem is that every person that has a failing PS4 spams the internet about the torture they are enduring, so it just exaggerates the actual problem at hand. Im excited for those that are getting the PS4...I'll initially take the XBone route, but looking forward to hearing about all the PS4 news that is about to flood the internet.
I lost 3 ps3s to bricking and ended up paying each time, I was so pissed at the way they handled the failures considering the sony forums were flooded with the same problems. I also had 3 xbox rrod but they were all covered for by Microsoft. That's one reason I'm scared about any problems with the ps4. I've read the warranty will be only 1 year but honestly it's these updates that bricked mine and so many other of my friend's systems. I'll most likely wait this time before firmware updates, tho some are complaining about fw1.5 causing hdmi failure we have no choice but to install it today as it will automatically download in the background.
It's basically a scam but for this, yeah, you might want the peace of mind and hassle-free ability to get a replacement.
Some gameplay for inFamous: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/HdYI993lNcw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> This kind of seems more like a leak than official video...but I don't know. Thinking I might actually stay up for the PS4 event tonight. Does seem like there might be some nice new content.
I got my preorder from Walmart this afternoon but went ahead and posted it up on craigslist. It's really tempting for me to open it however.
Yeah, no one's paying that much for a new console...well no one smart. Was discussing new consoles today at work with an intern...he bought an extra PS3 last time around and tried to sell it for $500...found no takers so he ended up keeping it. People who buy electronics marked up that much are too impatient.
Damn this update is taking forever on my crappy internet. 323mb. Too late to upgrade since I'm moving.
