hopefully. ....man. What happend to the astros?! they were supposed to be really good! after a 7-2 start, they have now dropped 7 of their last 9 games!
I should start a thread called "What has Greg Zaun done for you today?" Today it was 0-2 with an error. That gives our back-up catcher his third error! I think Ausmus had like a total of four all of last year. Isn't too bad he got beaned. I hope your ok Greg. Not! At least whenever he doesn't play I could put that he warmed the bench.
who was the Brewers catcher? Ramirez or something? He had a nice game. He threw out 2 steal attempts in a row. The players caught stealing were Biggio and Lugo, 2 players who do have good speed. Was a real killer for the comeback too.
I have a feeling we will see more of this if our starters don't figure out ways to go deeper in games. The bullpen is WAY overworked so far this season.
Its the offense fellas, not the pitching. We should score 7 to 8 runs a game against the Brewers. No excuse for that. That would allow the starters to go deeper too.
Bagwell and Biggio are back to good form, Biggio being the most surprising to me so far with 6 homers already!
The last two starts Roy Oswalt has had plenty of run support, and he was unable to go deep in the game. If the pitcher can't make the pitches, it doesn't matter too much if we are scoring runs, the manager will pull him.
Oswalt is averaging over 6 innings pitched per game. Although, by his standards, that may not be good, its still a good enough effort. Its not like he is getting taken out after 4 innings. Wade Miller: Last start, went 7 IP of shutout ball. Astros score only 2 runs and lose. Tim Redding: 3 starts this year. Total runs scored by the Astros: 3. Result: 1 win and 2 losses. Besides, my argument is that the hitting is currently subpar compared to the pitching. I dont understand why you are even debating this. Sure, at this rate, the bullpen will get overworked. Thats not my point. My point is that the offense sucks blue balls right now. The pitching, on the other hand, is holding its own pretty damn well so far.
Or in the case of Wade Miller, even if he does make the pitches, the manager will pull him. Our bullpen is always going to be tired with Williams managing because he yanks pitchers quicker than anybody.
It's funny because when Dierker was at the helm, everyone complained that he let starters stay in the game too long.
Perhaps you don't understand it because that is not what I am doing. I agree that the hitting is subpar right now. I was arguing with your statement that our starters could go longer if our offense was better. That may be true to some degree, but I doubt it will make much of a difference. Even if our offense scores a lot, the starter will get yanked if he suddenly can't get anyone out in the 4th or 5th inning, like what seems to happen in about 60% of our games so far this season. More offense would certainly lead to more wins, but I am concerned that even our ace and number two guy have had some pretty bad outings so far this season. With the relative inexperience of the rest of the rotation, we really need those guys to be the anchor...and right now it feels like we just can't count on them.
