We have two centers that can't shoot a jump shot effectively from outside of 5' - IMO tis would be a prerequisite to be considered "elite" -howard included. Terrance is a good starting PF when you have an elite shooter at center, but not when we don't and we need one at either position to be able to consistently hit a jump shot.
They can work for certain matchups and parts of the game if we had a competent coach. McHale can never get them to work.
Agree to disagree. While Howard isn't Duncan or Hakeem or anyone highly skilled in the post, he's worlds better than Asik. Howard can actually get buckets in the post. Asik can't. Spin outs to lobs. Consistently catching and finishing through contact. Asik doesn't do any of that. And Howard's is a much better defender and rebounder. I think Asik is drastically overrated here. If he's so valuable then wouldn't he be the player that would net you a premiere pf? Truth is, we'd have to package Asik to get that player and it'd likely be a team trying to trade a guy to just get assets instead of losing him for nothing.
I wish it didn't have to come to trading Asik but it is starting to look like a trade is the only option. Asik deserves to start and I hope he gets his chance. Now to come up with a team that is willing to trade for him: Hawks, Bucks, Wizards, or Nets? Trading him to the East is only I trade the team should do.
Totally disagree. He was a good rebounder in his Chicago days and with Taj Gibson and CJ Watson they formed one of the best defensive bench units. He has those stone hands, thats how Morey got him for a reasonable contract first. If you dont call Omer an elite defender just get a glimpse at the Chicago-Miami playoff series, if Bulls didnt have the horrible Boozer contract he might never be a Rockets player. He can be the X factor in a lot of teams with his defence but he is simply useless with Howard because they have similar skill sets only Howard is so much athletic and have better hands. People who tells about Howard-Gortat, Gortat was just a 5-10 minutes player in his early Magic days and only game he was important, when Howard was suspended against Philly in playoffs.
Without a functional twin towers, probably we do have to go through with a trade. But, it's not imminent. It'll be at the deadline or in the offseason if Morey can't consummate a deadline deal. Until then, I'm sure he'll be back as the backup center at least and his minutes and performance will recover. This game should be the low-water mark. It's an overreaction to say from this one game that he's pouting and won't be effective anymore.
Point here is that Howard is better but not by much as people think. It's easier to get more for Howard because of his prior reputation.
Tonight is the 2nd game of a back-to-back. The Rockets may want to let Howard tonight, so they only played Asik for 4 min. vs the Sixers. My guess is Asik plays 30 min and Harden plays 40.
Normally I'd agree with you because Morey's habit regarding trades is to either squeeze every horn-crusted booger out of the other team's GM or give away the player for 2nd rounders (if cap space is dire). But in this case, trading Asik in the off-season, when he'd only have one year left, but would be due $15,000,000 while counting just $8,333,333 on the cap, would be tougher. At least a team getting him now could rationalize, Okay, $5,000,000 now + $15,000,000 next year, that's $10,000,000 per year, that doesn't suck too bad.
Of course you cant directly compare dwight to asik. Question is if you have 20+ million to spend would you rather have just dwight or asik & aldridge?
You are kidding, right? Howard is significantly better than Griffin...offensively, they are about the same (altho D12's O rebounds give him the slight edge) and defensively Dwight is infinitely better.
Asik knows he will be traded, so he will be fine. He knows that the Rockets need to know what we have in T Jones, Dmo as a potential 4 and backup 5, because that will guide Morey's thinking in potential trades. Asik will be a good teammate, cash his checks, and hope to be dealt to a good team that treats him well. This is a frustrating season because of our potential and expectations. So all this speculation and kneejerking is just fine. But let's not completely abandon good old fashioned logic.
his value is great no matter what cause people know he can play, but if he doesn't feel like playing or has a bad attitude, his next contract might not be quite up to par $$ wise.
Howard is a better player when utilized properly; but a better PF? I don't see it, nor do I see them as comparable.
There is so much fail in this thread..smh. My BB IQ just dropped significantly just by reading these posts. Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only sane person in this forum.
