The problem is if Asik is only backing Howard he would only play 10-12 minutes a game. If you put him in with Howard at the same time the offense suffers.
Griffin can't hold Howards jock strap bro. With howards faults,he's still better than griffin and his faults. I do agree they should've traded asik earlier.
We were supposed to be a defensive juggernaut, with 2 of the best defensive centers and Beverley in the starting lineup. But we aren't even top 10 in DRtg. The offensive deficiency of the TT wasn't the problem. Defense is.
Could the reason Asik had only 4 minutes be because of the illness going through the team? I think we should wait a few games with Asik as back up before we make a kneejerk reaction to his apparent attitude
That was what i thought. He didn't even play when howard was of the court. He*probably didn't feel well
I was hoping Morey could hold out on trading Asik until the right deal fell into place, but time is not on the Rockets' side, and these early season loses are adding up. Whatever Morey can get for Dwight now might not be as good as what he can get later, but something needs to happen soon.
Trade Asik for Spencer Hawes. That's a 3pt shooting big. Hinkie needs to do it to start losing again.
Asik in my opinion isn't going anywhere. He will accept his role as a 2nd unit C and roll with it. after our (deep)*playoff run, Asik will most likely be shipped after the season.
People who are saying Asik suck are in my opinion, stupid and missed the entire 2012-2013 season. He is just unhappy with his role and that falls on him and the coaches to get it right.
Asik can play a major role in our bid for the ring. Not only can he backup Howard but Howard doesn't exactly have a great record of staying healthy an entire season. If Howard gets injured/sick then we have to go very small without Asik. We actually might of done better with the Twin Towers vs 76ers
Here's a novel idea. Why not run Asik and Dwight with Jeremy Lin and do pick and roll non-stop? Can't the coach just try that idea for five games?
Asik is overrated. He grabbed a lot of rebounds playing next to 4's that sucked at rebounding. Of course he was going to grab boards. He got his points from being force fed the ball on pick and rolls. He should've had more points if it weren't for stone hands. His defense is good, but he's not an elite defender. Yeah right. Dwight is an elite defender. Asik doesn't move well enough to be an elite defender. He's a big strong guy and he plays good one on one defense though. He doesn't completely suck. But he's not this beast he's being touted as. People saying this are probably some of the same people saying we didn't need Howard because we had Asik. Yeah right.
Lots of fail in this post Asik is a spectacular defensive player, not just good. And he rebounded at a high rate in Chicago playing next to Noah, Gibson and Boozer, and with Howard this year, so his rebounding is legit. He is a subpar finisher, but he got better offensively throughout last year, and by playoff time was very reliable. He is one of the 10 best centers in the NBA, and clearly one of our 5 best players, but him and Howard can never co-exist with their skill sets. Probably should have traded him in the offseason, but teams haven't forgotten his value so there will still be a good market for him so Morey can avoid low-balls. As long as we can get a solid defensive center to replace him we have to trade him.
Asik is a very good young center that is getting better. I actually think Howard is not that much of an upgrade over him. Asik has very high trade value. The bold thing to do is to trade Howard for a premier PF.
He has no midrange shot, it's that he's a face up player, so you need to get out on him or he just drives it in close and scores.
Asik is rock solid. If we lose him we'll be in deep trouble. All the pieces are there...the team and coaching staff need to figure a way for all of them to all mesh.
