Have defenses around the league figure out our offense, or are our players just in the midst of a 9-game drought? Before tonight's game, Harden, Parsons, Beverly, and Brooks were shooting below 30% from deep. Omri and Garcia are all shooting around 35%, but both have been struggling recently. And Lin is on fire. Do we have reason to worry? Have teams figured out our attack and dish defense? Or do you think the averages will become respectable as the year goes on? Chandler looks awfully hesitant from deep...
They are just missing open threes. Don't think there is really anything to fix that except to hope they eventually start falling.
The 3's are wide, wide open. It's not a problem with the way the offense is designed. The problem is that people are bricking like crazy. 0/5, 1/5, 2/6, 1/5 ... flu, injuries, fatigue... who knows. However we're not going to get far until we have more than ONE player on the team that can hit a 3. As of right now, Lin is hitting 51.35% from 3. Casspi is shooting 35.7%. Nobody else is above 33.3%, with multiple players sub 30%. Lin is basically on an island, expected to shoot to make up for everyone else's shot. That's a lot to ask of anyone.
On the bright side, hopefully they will all regress to their mean and the 3 ball will pick up for everybody!
Yep. Our offense relies heavily on the three ball, so when the entire team (outside of Lin currently) can't hit wide open threes, we're going to lose. I could've sworn our fast break offense was better last season too.. but it's only 9 games in so I guess its too early to say.
They're missing open threes -- even threes that were considered their hot spot. This isn't the league "figuring out" the Rockets. We better hope it's just a beginning slump instead of a regression to the mean dating back to last season. We really could use Ryan Anderson now
The biggest surprise is Parson's drop off in shooting. He really needs to shoot the open three and stop looking to pump fake and drive. He might've spent too much time bulking up and not enough time shooting in the off season.
The 3s will fall. The question is will we come out with our chemistry and confidence intact. Also, when 3s don't fall, our D and Dwight's post play has got to pick up and so far, Lin, Harden, Parsons, etc. have much to improve. Frankly, I feel it must be our defensive scheme as we over help too much on the post when we have Dwight and Omer. Finally, I don't know the exact numbers but teams are game planning to attack the offensive boards since a lot of our players are instructed to leak out and that is another coaching mistake, imho. I've never been a fan, actually quite the opposite, of Sampson as a defensive coach and I do believe our players have potential on the defensive end. Once again, with the improving 3 pt shooting of the entire league, I'd allow Dwight and Omer to take care of the paint and have our perimeter players just stick to their man.
Opposing teams are game planning against our penetration and run n gun offense and clearly we've set the example that the league is quickly copying. But once our 3s start to fall, they can't pack the paint no more so until then, our big boys, Harden and Howard as well as Lin, Parsons, and Bev gotta gut it out. I really love what I see from Bev and Parsons the most this year frankly speaking. Yes, their shots are not falling, but they are doing everything else. Lin's shooting is much improved but I'd rather he work on his decision making and being a floor general which I know he is capable of. Our shots are gonna fall, believe you me and we'll start dominating if Lin continues to put his bid in as a potential 3rd star. And if Parsons regains his shot, we may have another quasi star along with Lin and Bev will be just awesome all around once he gets his shot going. And btw, not that anyone cares, but I really don't like Casspi's game. He's trying to do too much all the time and wants to make a name for himself and playing selfish basketball, imo.
Pretty soon lin is going to regress to the mean, which I believe will be around 40 percent. When that happens, other rockets better start hitting their shots.
In their defense; Garcia has been battling the flu (and spreading it to the rest of the team ) Parsons has a bad back. Casspi has a bum ankle. Beverly is still recovering from that hurt muscle. Just be a little patient guys. Once their shots start falling again, teams wont be able to play zone, things will open up for the offense and Rockets will go back to blowing out teams to give them that much needed confidence.
Parsons always had poor form, even when he was 40% from downtown last year. He throws his body into the shot like a catapult. Because of this, his stiff back must be really affecting his shot. It's obvious he's lost confidence in his shot. Even if he didn't I would think his shooting would be sporadic with on/off nights since the trajectory is so flat. However, he's not playing OK. He's averaging 17 pts and 5 reb so far, which isn't great considering how many minutes he gets, but not bad either. Asik and Parsons are severely over-hyped on CF, where people are seriously thinking Asik + Parsons can get Bosh or Love. Truthfully, he's a good role player.
Covington ? he is worth a shot at this point if he can stay glued to his man on the perimeter and knock down a few 3s a game ????
Reminds me of what happened to Landry Fields. He was a 40% 3 point shooter as a rookie, then his shot flattened out and he became useless as a shooter. Some claim he messed with his mechanics, now they're saying he had some elbow nerve damage, who knows. Not sure what Parsons' excuse is.
