Any drastic change in temperature is bad. Yes the Earth has experienced warming since we have been keeping track of it. Yes it is clear that humans have injected a lot of carbon into the environment. Yes we should stop doing this and we should find less polluting technologies. However, the link between human created carbon and temperature change is not proven or understood very well from what I have seen. There needs to be much greater unbiased research done in this area.
oh just a sh!tpile of money, that's all. It serves as a tax on anybody that uses electricity or gasoline.
Let me clarify. The current research isn't biased. The reporting can be and assumptions from the trends can imply that we fully understand all of the dynamics of global temperature change.
Thank you, and I agree with this. We need long-form unbiased reporting. it is difficult to describe such a complex physical problem in 30-second soundbites, naturally. FWIW, I think it's unwise to attribute any one storm or one year in isolation to a single trend or cause.
That's fair. I don't care for this x or y is caused by climate change. I care for what scientists are telling us what we are likely to face in the coming years. There is much consensus on what is coming isn't pretty. There is plenty of doubt on what we can do about it, how effective they can be, what we should do... but unfortunately, here in the U.S.A, it prematurely stop at There Is No Problem and we don't even get to a discussion on policy.
someone on this site a while ago said oil companies are the biggest investors in renewable fuels. why? because they understand more than anyone that oil and gas will run out one day
One day....but not in our lifetimes or our children's lifetimes. The technology around now has VASTLY expanded our oil reserves. We've realized that the Permian Basin is actually the 2nd largest field in the world. This was a place that had been mined for oil and gas for decades. There will still be ample supplies of oil by the time that we finally transition off of oil as an energy source.
That 97% statistic? In the study that came up with that number, 97% is actually the percent of climate change scientists who believe the world is getting warmer, not the percent which actually believe in AGW. That number is more like 82%. I definitely believe in AGW, but it's important to keep the facts straight.
Let me give you guys a unique insight into a world that all of you have no understanding of. Global warming is complete and utter nonsense. A total lie. The purpose of the 'movement' is to do several things: 1. Raise taxes in the developed world to finance unsustainable budget deficits 2. Even out the balance of power between countries with fossil fuels (Middle East, Russia) and those without (Europe) 3. Suppress the economic rise of India and China (both countries 66%+ dependent upon coal for their energy needs) 4. Polarize the electorate in developed countries -- i.e. serve as another wedge issue and distraction None of this has a single thing to do with the impact of 'global warming' or anything climate related. This is a geopolitical power struggle. You are all being played for fools. Now you know the truth -- instead of the predictable insults that I expect, you should thank me. It will take you years before you would otherwise learn this.
Point #2 is abundantly clear to me. The Euros are acting in their own self-interest on this. What's shocking is how passionate they are about the situation. What's simply hilarious is that after giving the US so much schit over not ratifying the Kyoto protocol, the US was the first and only country to achieve the conditions of the Kyoto protocol.
What exactly could that possibly be? Here are the only conceivable options where you would possibly know more than the assembled board: 1. The lint content of your navel. 2. Your exact catalogue of 1970's nudie magazines. 3. Your Xmas wish list for furry costumes. 4. Your preferences of daily fast food consumption. Fascinating. Climate science is not on this list b/c you don't know crap about anything scientific.
I don't think many people on here realize the impact of carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas on our climate. Carbon dioxide does warm the Earth. However, the level in which it does is grossly over-exaggerated. It would take levels of 800 PPM to see any significant kind of change - I will define "change" as 1 degree Fahrenheit - not to mention the fact that CO2 only accounts for 20% of the greenhouse effect. Water vapor covers the other 80% of the greenhouse effect. Carbon dioxide is not even close to being the main cause of warming or cooling; there are 15-20 major factors that affect climate here on Earth. The models showing anthropogenic global warming only account for 5-6 of these factors since the computers cannot handle the complexity past that number.
Again B-Bob can only rely on humor to try to defend himself. Not convincing, B-Bob -- try to actually address the content of people's posts. If you cannot do that, it's better to keep quiet than start insulting people.
Lets not forget that China thinks AGW is such a plot by western powers to keep it down that it has become the leader in renewable energy industry and own official policy outlines steps to deal with AGW.
while they continue to build a new coal power plant each week don't be fooled by the marketing they're a leader in solar because they have cheap labor.
