All parties look bad... but IMO the Texans coach staff is looking worst because it is plain to all but the homer or current Texans coaching staff that he spoke the truth.
If this had happened BEFORE his tirade against the staff, I'd have lauded the decision. Now, it seems just a bit like pettiness. Still, this season is truly over and there's not much to look forward to. Not even a slew of young players to follow and see how they perform, Hopkins not withstanding.
This was a mistake from day one. Reed took the Texans for a ride. Before Morey, the Rockets were contract bonanzas for a long line of marginal players. Reed USED to be good. What a rip. Money down the drain.
Okay, you understand that NO ONE here disagrees with what he said, right? The problem is that you shouldn't accuse other people of sucking when you yourself suck. Pretty basic life principle.
I said in the following sentence that his comments made it easier to push him out the door, but for ****s sake we were paying a dime safety $5 million dollars, including a $62k game bonus every time he suited up. He was not worth that to a 2-7 team. He is washed up and not an NFL player anymore and that is the primary reason that he was cut. Second was financial reasons. Third was his comments. Rick Smith, or whoever pushed hard to sign him and let GQ walk(and God I hope that isn't Bob Mcnair), should be fired. It would be one thing if we gave him a modest one-year deal, but we gave him $5 mil guaranteed when there was virtually no market for him. To top it off we let go an above average safety (who got only $10 million guaranteed and only $1 mil in base salary this year...and has a ton of mileage left in him). Just plain stupid. Brice Mccain, who has been worthless this season, got 2.5 mil guaranteed. Add that to Reed $5 and you have most of what Quin would have required.
You have two actions here. The decision to pursue Reed, which is possibly McNair's meddling. And then contract that Smith negotiated. The Texans do have a habit of negotiating against themselves.

Kubiak: Talked to Ed; we're playing young guys. His role became diminished. In all fairness to him, his career and what he's done, it was fair to him to play somewhere else. That's how we came to the conclusion. We'll continue with these young guys. (Ed would have continued playing limited snaps.)
The Texans are so FAIR to everyone. They were very FAIR to Wood, Montgomery, Jefferson and neither of the 3 were THAT young. Also, everyone knows when you go young you don't want future HOFs, all-time great players around your young group. What's that expression, "It takes a real man to admit when he's wrong." I guess there are no real men running the Texans organization.
Except the coaches' sucking is by choice and can be fixed. Ed Reed can't really help if he's lost his speed or is unable to perform well. He still should be able to point out weaknesses that can be corrected. He was brought in, in part, to change the clubhouse and attitude of the team but it seems like the team didn't really want to change it. The general lack of accountability throughout the organization seems to be the preferred culture of the Texans.
If there's one thing I am certain of, as a Texans fan, it's that the Colts will sign Ed Reed and he'll go for 275yds receiving, 145 yards returning punts and break Keenum's back on a safety blitz.
