Don't know what we'd do for a backup center to replace Asik, but I guess that could come along later. I have thrown out similar ideas like this one, but with the draft rights to Lucas Nogueira coming back to us rather than Schroeder; but Schroeder was DEFINITELY on the Rockets' radar last summer, he came in for two workouts, if I remember correctly.
If the Hawks wanted Millsap longterm they never would have given him only a 2 year deal. A 4 year deal was a no-brainer for any team that wanted to make him part of their future. I've had the nagging suspicion all along that Millsap is nothing more than trade bait for Danny Ferry, and Millsap was more than willing to participate.
Fixed. Not to call out the "collusion!" trolls, you know, but we couldn't offer Millsap value. But we can give them what they want and need---Asik---and vice versa (beast 4 who shoots 3 pointers).
I have ESPN insiders say stuff, but I have yet to see anything about Horford specifically asking for Asik. Can you provide any backing for this?
I think we should try to trade for Derrick Williams and start him at the 4! The Wolves are shopping him and I think we have the assets to trade for him. He is a much better 4 than a 3. Obviously Love is getting all the minutes at the 4 spot so Williams has not really been showcased much. Last year in his sophomore year, Williams played decently putting up 12 ppg and 6 rebounds. I wonder if we could give them picks and cash? Some of you may say that he is a little bit undersized at the 4 being only 6'8", but he weighs 240 pounds. That is pretty heavy when you compare him to Ersan Ilyasova (235) and Ryan Anderson (240) Other people may say that he is like Terrence Jones, but Williams shot 33% from three last year and can drive right and left. Here is what he did against us last year: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/tQKH3IuElYU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I actually wouldn't mind getting Williams if he's on the market for the right price (not worth giving up Asik). I think he's been put in a HORRIBLE situation in Minnesota, and he's a breakout waiting to happen. He's clearly a power forward, but they've been playing him waaay too much on the wing & not giving him enough minutes to develop. He's playing like crap this season but what do you expect when he's having back problems and his team doesn't care about him. Only problem: Will McHale actually play him, or is it just T-Rob 2.0? Hmmm. Morey better get some promises from Kevin that Williams will start & play starter's minutes before he pulls the trigger on anything.
I can't imbed video right now, and I'm too lazy to find the video anyway, but from Horford's own mouth, he said he'd like Omer Asik on the Hawks (he might have mentioned another name or two as for-instances, but Asik's was the first name he mentioned as a center for the Hawks). Hopefully someone'll hook you up.
if we trade for a PF such as Milsap, Morey would have to find a third team in order to acquire a back up center. my idea is: Atlanta in: Asik Houston in: Milsap, Aaron Grey Toronto in: t jones and greg smith I'm sure there would be a few picks moving around as well. but, aaron grey would be serviceable as a back up to howard and is on a 2.7 mill. expiring contract. after this season I can easily see the rockets being able to sign spencer hawes on a reasonable contract, if not vet min, then maybe the MLE? idk but I think Grey would be sufficient for this season and that Hawes would be a perfect back up to Howard and he wouldn't cost the team too much. what do y'all think?
nvm that's crazy I didn't realize how good Hawes was hes going to demand more than his current 6.5 m. IMO hes the biggest competition for asik on the trade market.
Millsap probably wanted a bigger contract, but the 9.5 mil may have been best he could get this season from a team he wanted to play. With two seasons, Millsap establishes his Bird rights and can get a raise to 17 million from Atlanta. To horribly paraphrase Ghostbusters... If Paul Millsap says he will sign for 2 years starting at 9.5 Million, you say YES.
Gray is pretty terrible, if your going to play him you might as well just have Smith backing up. Koufas is a lot better but what Memphis need is guys that can shoot. Lin would be hugely attractive to them right now but you don't trade Lin for backup center. But ok let's play along then. this would be what I think Morey might do if he actually opt to trade Asik, a sneaky huge trade that not many people saw coming. http://www1.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/6350782 essentially, Rockets trade Asik + Dmo + Kostas Papanikolaou rights for Amir Johnson and Landry Fields (in a 3 way with Asik and Gay ending up in Sactown.). it's a bit stiff of a price but it might work out. Why Amir Johnson? because 1. he's a +/- god, the dude consistently ranks among the best RAPM player in the league, right there with and often better than Paul Millsap. 2. he's a great great off ball player : he does about everything you want off the ball. 3. he's pretty young at a very good contract. 4. he's game is getting better, every year his shooting range and efficiency has gotten better, he's already taken and made more 3s so far this year than he did all of last year. it's a consistent trend for him. He is a vastly underrated player by most, so this seems like the prefect under the radar ambush trade Morey makes. Fields is a bit more problematic and may or may not be included in that trade, but you can make an argument that he played well with Lin and is now undervalued due to his horrendous year last year recovering from injury. and we do need to take some minutes off Parsons.
its true. when you dismissed my trade for millsap i was gonna argue it simiiar to oremlk and roxtxia but didnt have the time. Here you go fine Sir's. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=8328817&postcount=32 credit to redhotrox, me im just being the gopher.
I just firmly believe that in whatever trade happens, the rockets have to get a back up center or a PF that can play C for short stretches while Howard is on the bench. we all saw how bad the defense was last year when asik sat and that could end up being the rockets Achilles heel in the playoffs. the best PF/C that could be available are LMA and Horford (both seem to be long shots) so the most realistic option is get milsap and a C that can come in and play for small stretches.
a backup center doesnt neccasiraly have to be a part of the trade with asik. a backup center can be easily acquired via a seperate smaller deal. something like... dmo/smith to charlotte for biyombo. charlotte has bigAl and cody zeller as the backup. plus they have brendan haywood coming off of injury around mid january. you can add a 2nd if you dont think its enough value for charlotte. by being able to do this you could trade asik without receiving a backup c. something along the lines of asik+jones+caanan to atlanta for millsap+schroder+2nd bev/lin harden/lin/garcia parson/garcia/casspi millsap/casspi/parsons dwight/biyombo
To me it is axiomatic that H&H is the hard core of the Rockets. The two players that have significant contracts allowing serious trade are Lin and Asik. Lin appears to make a case of being a real 6th man on the rotation and currently much more significant player is less likely to be traded. Asik is too valuable contract wise to be kept as a bench player. On the other hand the team interested in Asik somewhat steep contract would need him as a starter. That does not leave too many teams in the mix in the receiving end. Those that need him do not have exactly the players that the Rockets want. In my opinion the team most interested in Asik is the Cavaliers, because of Bynums health issues. They can offer Varejao, who is a very nice player with an expiring contract but not much more. Asik is worth more and you would need to get more. Maybe Waiters with Varejao would do it.
Love missed pretty much all last season and he did nothing to break out as you say. I mean, peckovic stepped up,but williams did nothing.
I finally found a possible trade that I think might be doable for all teams involved and that I am actually salivating over doing involving Asik. This is the first reasonable deal not involving trying to trade Asik for a superstar that I have seen that I want to do. Asik to Atlanta DMo and expiring dealsto Philly. Hawes and Millsap to Houston. Guys....Hawes is the perfect fit here BACKING UP DWIGHT and PLAYING ALONGSIDE DWIGHT. There...I said it. Take a look at Hawes game. And tell me he isn't the ideal fit as a backup 5 and a guy that can play 10 minutes per game alongside Dwight against big man tandems if needed. We need to send out Asik, at least one of DMO/TJones, Greg Smith, and probably Ronnie Brewer's contract. That would be enough salary to get it done. If we can't get a 3rd superstar...I want this deal. In fact, I want this deal if it is possible over getting a guy like LaMarcus and I might want this deal over getting some of the other superstars that may become available like Melo. I think Hawes and Millsap are far better value than LaMarcus.
