trades and free agents the rockets should pursue

i recently read an article saying the knicks were going to probably trade their lottery pick for an established veteran and with antonio mcdyess injured on the knicks. the knicks will need a center. if so, i would suggest the rockets trade kelvin cato for kurt thomas and the knicks lottery pick. knicks have made some dumb trades over the years, hopefully they continue that tradition and make a deal with the rockets. Layden could also sweeten a trade package by offering one of two second-round picks owned by the Knicks, one of which is 31st overall.

another team the rockets could try to pursue a trade with would be the Grizzlies who will be looking to add a power player this off-season according to realgm. kelvin cato would fill that role perfectly.

The Grizzlies, who are the seventh seed, will lose their pick if it is not the top overall pick in the draft. They will, however, have Houston's first round pick, which currently stands at 13, and Sacramento's first round pick, which is slated to be the 27th pick.

West may be able to package the draft picks with a player or two to get a player he feels can help fill a need.

in the free agent market, the rockets might be able to pick up a player like kenny anderson or pj brown. kenny anderson is an experienced point guard who was once regarded as one of the best at his position and pj brown is a 6' 11" Power Forward who could be the perfect enforcer for a rockets team that is pretty soft. steve kerr and steve smith, both sharpshooting role players at guard are also on the free agent market. not to mention pf karl malone and voshon lenard's another decent guard the rockets could pursue. which trades or free agents do you think the rockets should pursue?

ideally, the rockets offseason would go like this:

trade cato to knicks for first round lottery pick, plus 31st overall pick to sweeten the deal and kurt thomas.

hopefully the knicks lottery pick is number 3 and the rockets pick carmelo anthony to be the rockets starting small forward.
and the 31st pick, the rockets use to draft Ronald Blackshear, a 6'5" sharpshooter.

later on in the offseason, the rockets sign kenny anderson to be their point guard.

with these fantasy deals, the rockets team would be totally revamped for the 2003-2004 regular season.

    PG Kenny Anderson
    SG Steve Francis
    SF Carmelo Anthony
    PF Eddie Griffin
    C Yao Ming

backup shooting guards: Ronald Blackshear, cuttino mobley
backup point guards: moochie norris, tito maddox
backup small forwards: glen rice, james posey, and bostjan nachbar, terrence morris
    backup power forwards: maurice taylor
    backup center: kurt thomas

    nice fantasy eh?
    ;) :D

sigh...The knicks wont get anthony. If they did, they wouldnt trade the pick.

Also,I have seen ALOT of people here want kurt thomas.I must be missing something,I have never seen him do anything special or eye popping. Basically he is =kenny thomas.

Check catos rebs /per 48 minutes. Then decide who is better rebounder/banger/pf.

Spreewell is also way over paid. And crappy attitude. Forget him. The rockets would be nuts to trade with the knicks again.

if the knicks had the opportunity to get carmelo anthony, i'm pretty sure, they'd trade the pick. they're stupid like that. besides they have sprewell at small forward, they have no real need for carmelo.

and if you don't know knicks draft history, you don't know how stupid the knicks are. they drafted frederic weis (french guy who got posterized in world basketball championships by vince carter) over ron artest. and last year, they traded marcus camby, and number 7 pick nene hilario for antonio mcdyess and the number 25 pick or something like that. they like to trade for established veterans. and there have been draft day blunders in their history. they have basically never gotten anyone good from the draft except maybe patrick ewing and mark jackson.

the only reason to get kurt thomas is for him to be a replacement for cato at the backup center spot and besides thomas is a decent mid-range shooter and he can make his free throws and he plays pretty good defense. besides the main part of this deal would be to get carmelo anthony. i can do without thomas. only then, you have to sign pj brown.

well, normally, you'd think moochie norris is untradeable. but with me as gm of the rockets, i make it possible. by trading moochie and rice, you could actually end up with a good point guard. and this trade might actually be do-able.

    rockets trade:

    moochie norris
    glen rice

    raptors trade:
pg alvin williams (6 foot 5) nice improvement in size and a better player than moochie. hits his free throws too. and if i remember correctly from my nba 2k3 game, he's pretty fast. :D plus he can shoot.

C hakeem olajuwon - hakeem ends his career a rocket again, not playing but with the rockets paying the remainder of his salary for one more year. with this trade, he would also be allowed to train yao.

see if the rockets only had me as gm, they'd be contenders.

    PG Kenny Anderson
    SG Steve Francis
    SF Carmelo Anthony
    PF Eddie Griffin
    C Yao Ming

backup shooting guards: Ronald Blackshear, cuttino mobley
backup point guards: Alvin Williams, tito maddox
backup small forwards: james posey, and bostjan nachbar, terrence morris
    backup power forwards: maurice taylor
    backup center: kurt thomas

    nice fantasy eh?

I like Kurt Thomas to replace Cato. We would still need a legit back up center (maybe keep Collier) but Thomas is nasty enough to put in minutes at the 5 in the Western Conference except against the Lakers. We'd have to move Taylor or Griffin or we have the same logjam at the 4 we started with this season.

Are you high? Not even a Drunk, coked up Krause would make a deal like that. Cato for Thomas and a lotto pick. You gotta be out of ur mind, the only way we get a lotto is if we trade Griff or cat. Maybe even Rice cus his contract is almost up
