Without those hands at this point our defense is nil. "Ever" is a different story, but I'd tend to agree anyway.

I'm sure there are small guards who had quicker hands overall. But relative to his size, Olajuwon has the quickest hands of all time. Hands down.

Francis out top, 9 seconds on the clock, he gives a no look pass to Cuttino Mobley, 4 seconds left, Mobley passes to an open Langhi in the corner with 1 second left! Langhi at the buzzer.......YES!!! How Sweet It Is!!

I agree, did ya'll see him knock down those Celts in '86. Kakeem could give Lennox Lewis some serious problems. He's a 7' Roy Jones Jr.

He leading the league all-time in blocks, but in what place he is in steals?

Not as many small men as I'd expect. Still Hakeem's up there...

Remember that steal he had against c-webb a couple years ago ? It won us the game.

Guards should have more steals then centers. They're on the ball more and they are more apt to play the passing lanes. Hakeem's steals are due solely to quick hands. I didn't know he was that high on the list. He's also the only guy over 6'6" on the list.

    gr8 I love that Quote

    #6 ALL TIME in steals
    #1 All time in blocks.

    CALL FOR OLD HEADS
Do you think Russel had more blocks?
    What about Steals?

Russel is considered the best all time
Defensive center. . . That would make
    Hakeem NO LESS than #2

    Where is Hakeem in scoring?

U know. . . the steals stat is a bit frightening
because. . . I've always say I gave the NOD
of all time best center to Wilt. . . but
    now. . .

    I have to say Hakeem

    Rocket River
    Both dominated

I do not think Russell would have had more blocks, but steals may be another issue. Hard to say. It is just too bad they didn't track those statistics when Russell played.

Hakeem just has always had a knack for blocking shots, and he is not even a 7-footer. I think a lot of his timing and anticipation for the ball started when he was a goalie in Nigeria.

Really, when you are a goalie, you are blocking and/or catching the ball and preventing it from going into the goal, and oftentimes at a much higher rate of speed, and into a much larger goal than an NBA basket. Anticipation, timing and instincts are key components to both. I think his soccer experience really contributed.

    Thanks Rocket River.

Hakeem was definitely the total package. He definitely knew how to time his blocks, etc. But, the man had a great vertical in his younger days. When we played the Bulls, he was blocking Pip and Jordan almost at will. It led to this quote by Red Kerr (a bigger homer then Calvin) :

"Man, that Olajuwon is incredible. He's like a 7-foot Dominique Wilkins. He's that athletic."
    Other announcer : "yep."

Nope. Sugar Ray Leonard has the fastest hands ever. He would beat Hakeem knees to death before Dream got off one good whack to the top of his head....
