The winningnest coach in hoops history was fired after 3 seasons. In those 3 seasons, his team made the playoffs 2 times. Last yr without having Carter for most of the yr. This yr he didn't suit up 12 players not one game. Carter missed over half the season this yr and Davis missed alot of season also. He won 47 games a yr after losing what is widely known as the best player in the league in McGrady. Whats my point?

I don't agree with Toronto getting rid of Wilkens, but why are people so quick to defend and give Rudy another chance? Rudy hasn't made the playoffs in 4 yrs , yet Lenny made it last yr and the yr before without even having their best player last yr for most of the season. I think the rope and excuses Rudy has been given way,way too long. Just like Toronto thought it was time to move, I feel the same about Rudy.

Heck, we handicap ourselves, the Rockets only needed to suit up nine players since their coach didn't trust the other three to touch the ball.

I agree on the sentiment but isn't this a duplicate of about five other threads.

Lenny deserved to be fired in Atlanta and deserved it in Toronto. Rudy deserves the security guard escort out now. The one that astonished me was Don Chaney with a two - year extension ! What?! In New York!?! Good lord, why? How do they spin that?
Oh, let me guess - injuries, cap-hamstrung, can't get team together to "gel", x/os don't matter, it's all about "matchups"; discipline must come from players, they're old enough to prepare themselves, I just break tape... the sun will come out - to-morrow - just give them more time!

    Blah. Swing the axe.

Lenny made it to the playoffs in the East. Big difference, although I do understand the point you are trying to make.

Yeah I forgot about ATL. In atl he overacheived with Mutombo,Smith and Blaylock. Management decides the team has gone as far as it could and trades Blaylock for nothing and Steve Smith for a head case in JR Rider. Wherever he coaches , he gets the most out of his talent. Those cavs teams were defeated by MJ, his old Sonics team went to the finals 2 times and won 1, and the Raptors won their first ever playoff series under him. Also, who would have thought after losing your best player, that the team would rally and make the playoffs and take the Nets to 7 games?

Wilkins is also the losingest coach in hoops history...finally getting Bill Fitch off the hook for that dubious distinction.
But losing Lennny wont make the Raptors a better team, the continual coaching changes will only set back the progress of the team.
We got a chance to see the unstabilizing effect of coaching change this year, but it is even worse with young teams like the Rockets.

So your question is Toronto made a dumb move, why don't the Rockets do it too?

What was the relationship like b/t Wilkens and Carter?
