    When he guards BG,that's ok.
But other tine he usually loses his man and position.
And we won't let him guard BG like last season any more with TT.

I wouldn't say he's on Asik's level since he seems inept on defense a lot of the time but he plays with a lot of energy and is a good finisher. I think with more playing time he can work himself into the rotation for sure.

Misread. Apologies. I thought you said to orient the defense. However, I would assume he would still be on the scouting report based on his PT last year? At least based on my personal experience...

    Good observations!

OP: DMo and TJ aren't ready yet. Smith is more ready in a way but his D is too bad to play at center. Now Casspi has the backup PF position locked where could his minutes come from? Casspi subs first for D12 or Asik, then Smith would only have very little PT.

Maybe he isn't a great defender. But two of the best defensive bigs in the league played horrible defense last night. Greg Smith was a huge spark off the bench & he wouldn't have received any playing time if the other bigs weren't in foul trouble. They could have sucked the entire game, and Greg still wouldn't have seen any time.

Players get better. You can focus on last year all you want. Have at it.

G Smith plays good pick n roll defense, cause he comes out on the pick, his quick feet , he has pretty good hands, he can post sume and he can run the floor well.

Perhaps. But game day players watch film and memorize rotations and assignments. I doubt that Smith was even featured in a single frame or mentioned in any way. But who really knows. None of us are in the huddle.

I would assume, based on personal experience, he would get at least a bit of scouting tape review. Everybody normally on the active roster would.

He fouls because he can't move his feet on defense. EVERYONE can blow by Greg Smith. The last time I saw him playing good positional defense was never.
