Your name fits you well, PLAYAHATA. ------------------ Five to one baby, one and five...no one here gets, out alive.
HP, Every Rocket is my favorite, just so you know. I just think the bashing some of the players receive here, esp. Mo and Collier, is completely going overboard and being blown out of proportion. For example, seeing what you have seen of Collier and comparing him to the rest of the rookie class, wouldn't you consider it ludicrous to consider him a wasted pick at this point? Especially considering that would mean about 55 of the 58 players in the draft were wasted picks if we go by the same logic. I watched Collier at Georgia Tech, and he used more than his frame to get boards. He was active on the glass and had very good instincts when going after the ball. His frame helped, but didn't do it all for him. Collier's job right now is not to go in and focus on rebounding, from what I've seen. Rudy wanted him to be a primarily offensive minded center who could help out with a physical presence on defense. But when I've seen him on the floor, he often plays alongside KT, and it seems as if KT has been our "designated rebounder" all year long when he's in there. Hope you understand what I'm saying by that. Calling Behad, calling Behad... Playa's been let back on his computer again after getting caught a couple of months ago on those websites his parents told him were a "no-no"... he needs a sitter. ------------------ President of the Jason Collier fan club! Cat. For you to not acknowledge that: Richardson, Maglore, El-Amin, and Cleves havent outplayed Collier then your just stuck man. More power to ya. heypartner. Firstly let me thank you for bringing up Bill Lamby before I could. If you want, you could also throw a few more outside type centers in their too. Like ummm the Big man in Portland. Now on to other things. Cmon Heypartner. Rox down by one, closing seconds...whats the call??? You know what it is, I know what it is, every opposing defense knows what it is. Or even. Closing seconds of the half. What play is being run? The only thing Im hating on is Rudy's inability to come up with a decent offensive game plan. You love to point out the few variances in Rudys planning. But when a bucket is needed. Every one this side of Moscow knows whats being run. Stagnation is stagnation. Ive listened to every excuse some of you guys have thrown out there for the last 4 years. First we were too old, then we didnt have chemistry, then we were to young. All excuses. All I have to say is look at the Magic last year. Doc had his team playing great, and without one player who was a legit all star or close type player. They had a mix mosh bag of players who were playing for the first time (alot of them aleast.) together. Whats actually tiresome, is to look at a play thats busted. Have a few players run around unkowingly, score a bucket...then labeling it the "Rudy Iso double flex wing motion backdoor cut" play. You think Im the only one who thinks this way. How about his peers. Phil Jackson called Rudys game planning a scab of an offense once. I believe he said it was like watching a scab dry actually. You guys like to say that I couldnt possibly know more about B Ball then Rudy...well you cant possibly know more than Phil either. I believe George Karl ragged on Rudys game calling ability once before also. Although he didnt need to he just went out and decimated it year in and year out in the playoffs. Even Jerry Sloan has had words about Rudys coaching abilities. Respect these guys or not, they are all excellent coaches in the NBA. When you start hearing the Kobes of the world proclaim how they would love to play for Rudy because he "Lets his players play one on one alot" then you know its not necessarily a good thing. Am I stuck in a Mobley/Anderson rut...absolutely. When I hear stupid non team comments like "I want me and player x to make the all star game." "I cant do that as a reserve" crap. Yep you nailed it. Couple that with selfish team play, waving off players in good positioning, the absolute need to pad stats (ahem 4th quarter of the bulls game) and possibly snubbing of your own teammates. It is Rudys job to make the team run more effecient. And so far he has failed at it. Never playing Anderson in the 4th is one way to fail. Dont give me that he hasnt earned it this year either. He didnt get to play last year in the 4th. Do I dislike Rudys coaching abilities...you bet. Im tired of the same thing year in and year out. Free throws Defense Offensive Rebounding Turnovers Every year its the same things knocking us down. You could write a script year in and year out. But I am slightly happy with the Rox play so far. Considering...It could be a lot worse. ------------------ "I have amazing, powers of observation"...Pink
No one is expecting him to be a Laimbeer or Sabonis, and if you think he must turn into someone as good as that not to consider him a wasted pick, I guess there's nothing I can say. I agree with some of your points, but disagreed with a few. I've never heard Phil say that, but assuming he did, who's to say he knows more about basketball and coaching than Rudy? I'd much rather have Rudy than Phil, Karl, or Sloan as a coach. Before you counter with Phil's track record with his triangle offense, consider that was completely made up, designed, and put into place by his assistant Tex Winter. His coaching had nothing to do with that. Were you watching the same team last year? Except for the first couple of weeks of the season, I recall Shandon being in every single game almost in the closing minutes. I agree him not being in there now could potentially be a problem, but last year that was not the case. Also, we are one of the top foul shooting teams in the NBA last time I checked that number. ------------------ President of the Jason Collier fan club! Looking for next year's Jason Collier or Dan Langhi? Draftsource.net ClutchTown.com
Obviously you werent watching the same Rox I was. Cause Anderson couldnt score 30 points in the 3rd and get in the 4th quarter. *** ***Thats sarcasm*** But Anderson sat at least 65-75 percent of total 4th quarter time last year. Actually the Triangle had been around for at least 30 years. Phil was the first coach to implement it so succesfully. ------------------ "I have amazing, powers of observation"...Pink
Anyone have any actual numbers on this? Cause honestly I think he played at least 65 percent of the time last year in the 4th. ------------------ President of the Jason Collier fan club! Looking for next year's Jason Collier or Dan Langhi? Draftsource.net ClutchTown.com
Dreamshake- Rebounds: 39 26th in the league Opp rebounds: 39.8 5th in the league Points allowed: 90.2 9th in the league Defensive fg%: 0.452 23rd in the league Turnovers: 16.2 14th in the league Free Throws: 0.806 2nd in the league I'll do research later, but I'll bet money you were one of the people who declared last year that Rudy will never be able to do anything other than the post up offense. It has become clear that nothing, nothing at all is going to change your mind. HP discusses real plays that happen in actual games. But of course you didn't address any of his valid points at all in your lengthy post, instead you wave it off as "the few variances in Rudy's planning". All you have to back up your usual gripes is some ancient quotes from two coaches (one of which you're not sure about) and a couple of quotes from Cuttino, one of which doesn't even exist (Cuttino has never complained about PT). Come on. Before I finished reading your post, I thought sarcastically to myself "I bet he'll complain about the FT% before he's done." I laughed when you actually did it. Not that your argument relating Rudy to the FT% is even slightly valid, but Christ, we are second in the league. Turnovers are better than they have been in years, even with our crappy play, but oh no, for you it's the same old thing. It was funny last year when you kept b****ing about rebounding when we were top 10 in the league. We've installed a completely new system in a season, but no, to you it's just the same old thing. Dude, the only thing that's the same from the beginning of last season to this one is your Rudy-bashing. Even the stats aren't the same. So, do you watch the games? Do you have anything to say about the four plays run for SA in the 1st? Anything to say about motion offense in the 1st and 3rd quarters? [This message has been edited by Nolen (edited November 29, 2000).]
Heres one for you to research Nolen. Whats Houstons record against San Antonio Utah Miami Los Angeles Portland Chicago New York and Seattle Over the last 4 years, not counting this year. I promise you this youd be astonished to see it. Thats with 4 of the top 50 players of all time. Better yet, compare his head to head against Sloan Karl Riley Jackson Over the last 4 years. Arguably the 4 best coaches in the NBA. You might be even more astonished. Blah, blah, blah, blah. Same ol attack to those who dont think Rudy as a god. All I got to say is look at what happened in the Olympics. The Dream team almost got beat twice. His players were out of control (no discipline), his assistants were questioning him, in game. Let me hear your same old rehashed crap. "Rudy doesnt miss the Free throws" "He doesnt make turnovers" Blah, blah, blah, blah. Hey one decent year of free throw shooting in 5. Sounds like you have reason to toot the "improvement" there. Ill take my 4 bad years of it over your 13 games of decent free throw shooting as a more accurate testimony. Are the Rox still not pretty bad at turning the ball over??? Do they still not play horrible team D. Rotations are bad, late, and adjustments are rarely made. 15 games of decent free throw shooting. Not bad. Your impressed with 30 team boards a game??? You still think Rudy can implement a decent game plan. After this season, ask Mo, Anderson, and Pippen what they think of Rudys ability to involve the entire team. ------------------ "I have amazing, powers of observation"...Pink
I think the injuries in the last 4 years and the fact that those 4 coaches have had clearly better and more talented teams than we have should speak margins. The Olympic players were not undisciplined. They just didn't get the job done. And that is their fault. Not the damn coach. IMO, the Rockets play pretty good team D. I certainly have not seen them late on rotations and such very often. The Rockets are not a rebounding team. Look at their roster. No coach in the NBA could get more rebounding out of our players than Rudy is. We just don't have those types of players. And that is CD's job, not Rudy's (to pick the players). Ask Glen Rice and Isaiah Rider about Phil Jackson's ability to do that. Ask Donyell Marshall about Sloan's ability to implement everyone. Ask Jason Caffey about George Karl's. And what's Miami's record this year? All these coaches have their flaws. You just choose to emphasize Rudy's and act like these other coaches are flawless. It is somewhat funny that the Rockets have less overall talent this season than Riley and Karl's teams, yet they have a much better record than both. Isn't winning what matters? I'd still take Rudy over any other coach in the NBA. ------------------ President of the Jason Collier fan club! Looking for next year's Jason Collier or Dan Langhi? Draftsource.net ClutchTown.com
Cat. I can agree with over injuries. I can actually appreciate your arguments. And tell ya that its been good having a conversation that isnt based on all agreements. I dont want to get lost in this thread. The original point I was trying to make was that I personally have not been upset with the Rox season so far. Maybe we can stay focused on that. ------------------ "I have amazing, powers of observation"...Pink
DS...no need to take shots at my play calling. Hating Rudy and Mobley is one thing, but don't bash my attempts to report the plays, like I'm doing it to confuse and misinform everyone. So, when are you going to tell me about the 1st and 3rd quarters, and join us in the present. [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited November 29, 2000).]
Dreamshake- I think I'll back off a bit; I forgot you started this thread to point out positives in the first place, which is cool. I don't think excellent free throw shooting proves Rudy's excellence. I don't think bad free throw shooting proves his ineptitude. I think it's humorous that you point to FT% as one of the constants of Rocketball that will forever haunt Rudy and his inability to coach when we are almost leading the league in that statistic. I'm not going to defend our poor-ass defense or our rebounding- they suck. But I wouldn't point to our rebounding as one of those constant weaknesses that has hounded the rockets for years, because we were top ten in the league last year and that was our frikkin lottery season. No, we don't turn the ball over like we used to- we are firmly at league average, even with some of our crappy play thus far. It's only going to get better from here. If you followed the stats last season you would see that's exactly what happened; a consistent improvement in turnovers throughout the entire season. Our average still sucked at the end, but it constantly and consistenly improved. We're above the league average now and it isn't a fluke. Combine that with the fact that we are 3rd in the league with Opp. steals at 6.8, and you'll see we're protecting the ball very well. Am I pissed that we get multiple turnovers per game from palming violations? Yes. But it is improving, it always has been. I have reasons to hope, but you're running out of reasons to hate. Free throws are better, turnovers are better, and Rudy has already proven he can successfully implement a completely new offensive system. The only evidence I see that backs you up is the defense; that is Rudy's responsibility and his fault, and if it doesn't improve he should answer for it. Still, if statistics of past and present don't sway you, certainly you like to talk game. So, again I ask: do you watch the games? Do you have any responses to what has already been clearly pointed out by HP?
Without any doubt. Not even close. ------------------ President of the Jason Collier fan club! Looking for next year's Jason Collier or Dan Langhi? Draftsource.net ClutchTown.com
Anybody who claims that El-Amin has outplayed Collier does not watch basketball. El-Amin will be out of the NBA next year, you wait and see. ------------------
